Interview with MixedByDonx
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: I am currently working on building a huge brand for myself. I want to connect and network with other people while also mixing and mastering records all around the world. I plan to mix platinum records , I plan to win Grammy awards as an engineer and I also plan on simply becoming best mixing and mastering engineer in the music industry. It is going to take a lot of hard-work but I have already prepared myself for that and I am already working towards it.
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: MixedByDonx
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Digital, that's mainly because I really never had the opportunity to use analog gear, I grew up in a technology filled era which made things easily accesible for people with internet connection. With the digital plugins I feel like I am already used to them and I make great sounding mixes with them. I personally do not see the point of analog as I can achieve the same results with digital.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: Some people think mixing and mastering is all about turning knobs and having expensive analog gear; This is not true, the most important thing to a mix engineer will always be their ears, without a trained ear for mixing or mastering ; no expensive gear can make you create a good mix. Yes, the gear helps but knowing how to use the gear is what matters the most. Most industry top mix engineers today do not even use analog gear, they mostly mix in the box using digital plugins e.g Jaycen Joshua, Alex Tumay, Andrew Scheps. These engineers listed all started using analog gear and they have now fully converted to using digital plugins while still delivering great mixes. It's not about the gear, its about the ear : )
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Find an engineer who listens first. Look at their portfolio, ask for a quick sample, and make sure their style matches the sound you want. Good communication is just as important as good mixing.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: Laptop, Audio Interface, Heapdhones, Studio Monitor (Pair),
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: My style is defined by precision, clarity, and emotional impact. I aim for mixes that feel both technically strong and artistically alive.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: I enjoy being able to manipulate different sounds and audio, This is the fun part but when you can manipulate audio in a pleasing way that people all around the world can enjoy listening to that's the amazing part. I love my job and what I do, it makes me happy :)
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: N/A
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: 100% client satisfaction.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: Why should I order your service? Besides mixing for money, it's something I really enjoy and have a passion for and I believe this is what separates my gig from others. I will not apply reverb and delay presets and say your song is "mixed". I will take my time as I process your song like it was mine. I will bring your song to life!
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: I would like to know the exact things they are looking for on their mix. This will help me to undertsand the vision for the song so I can bring that to life.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I am a Mixing and Mastering engineer with over 5 years of experience.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: Central Cee. Big fan of him because I love his music and all the work he has put him to get him where he is today. It will be great to have an opportunity to make a song with him or mix his vocals.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: You can only be good at mixing & mastering once your ears are trained.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: I usually work on Hip-Hop and Afrobeats
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Vocal Clarity
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I bring clarity, balance, and intention. Every element sits where it belongs, every vocal feels clean, and the whole mix translates on any speaker
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: My typical work process is listening to "rough mixes" that I was given by the client. If there is no rough mix I would listen to the song itself, this will give me the vibe of the song and I will be able to determine what techniques I need to use during the mixing & mastering process.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: Hardware : Universal Audio Apollo Twin, Universal Audio UAD-2 Satellite Octo Core Headphones : Beyerdynamic DT 250 250ohm, Audio Technica ATH-M50x Studio Monitors : Adam Audio T8Vs
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: My favorite mix engineers in no order are : Manon Grandjean, Alex Tumay, Serbean Ghenea, Jaycen Joshua, and Sean D.
