Interview with Lauren Nicole - (Cailee)

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: I've been working with a lot of different people lately where I have made something they absolutely love and that means the most to me.

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: I'm writing and featuring with a lot of big artists at the moment and spend a lot of time in Ibiza doing sessions.

  5. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  6. A: Rory Hope ( good friend and amazing Topliner)

  7. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  8. A: Digital

  9. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  10. A: To turn things around quickly and to get them something they really love.

  11. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  12. A: meeting like minding people that I can collaborate with and watch a song come to life.

  13. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  14. A: If I can write some lyrics to their melodies, and I say yes :)

  15. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  16. A: That the topline is not one of the most important parst of the track, I think without the topline you don't have something everyone can sing along to and connect with.

  17. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  18. A: Splits - how the royalties are going to work.

  19. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  20. A: Just do it :)

  21. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  22. A: Voice memos, my Taylor guitar, my ukulele, my laptop and a mic.

  23. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  24. A: I've been working professionally as a Singer Songwriter for 6 years now.

  25. Q: How would you describe your style?

  26. A: It's hard to describe as I work on so many different styles, but I'd say catchy commercial songs or dark breathy melodies.

  27. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  28. A: I'd love to work with John Summit as I love his dark commercial trance sound.

  29. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  30. A: Don't be an over perfectionist or you'll never get the song finished.

  31. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  32. A: I usually work on dance focussed music, I've been doing a lot of trance, tech house and hyper techno recently, But I also love commercial pop and dance pop along with sync (such as ballads) so a bit of everything really!

  33. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  34. A: Songwriting has always been my favourite and I've spent many years mastering this, same with singing.

  35. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  36. A: I bring concepts, catchy hooky melodies, unique melodies and lyrics, along with my voice which I can change to suit all different styles, I love the breathy sounding vocals but can also belt or even do spoken word depending on the project.

  37. Q: What's your typical work process?

  38. A: My typical work process is to be sent a track with references and then work off that to create a song. (I do also work the other way round where the topline comes first but I prefer having the track to inspire me) I then write the song and head to my studio to record it adding harmonies and doubles to get it to the best I can.

  39. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  40. A: I have a home studio set up so I can turn things around quickly, I've got an Aston spirit mic which really suits and works with my voice, I also have a dual interface and a Mac book pro. I love using logic to record my vocals and can also add some vocal processing after recording (Tuning, reverb etc) to give producers a taste of how the finished song can sound.

  41. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  42. A: A lot of inspiration comes from Becky Hill as I love the commercial dance music genre. Also Billie Eilish as I love the dark melodies she uses in her songs and the breathy vocals, Charli xcx is a new inspiration to me as I love how she uses spoken word in a lot of her songs now to give it that "cool sound" and I've found that's been very influential in my writing.

  43. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  44. A: top-lines and vocals for many different genres, but mainly dance music. Re sings of existing songs or songs already written. Songwriting- lyrics & melody
