Interview with Lamps (Lampadinha)
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Music is a gift, a joy, then listen to your music with love and passion, without looking for trouble, feel the music and if it excites you, that's what matters most.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: In most of the cases rock songs, coincidently my 4 Awards are working with rock bands. But I love music, and I love to work with all genres.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Definitely understand what the artist needs and where he wants to go with his song.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I always try to feel what the song brings to me, the emotion, the energy, the vibe. And try to increase that mixing the song. Years on the battle field help a lot.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: When I do mixing, I usually like to start from scratch listening to some rough mix (if available), just to get an idea what the artist got used to listen to for days or months. Then I start to move some faders.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I started at stone age :-) Since then, I've been working with so many gear and studios, (digital and analog) that today all this experience makes me feel super comfortable doing my mixes in a digital environment. So now (I can change tomorrow) my setup is: Mac Pro / Macbook Air, Protools HDX 12.6 (tons of plugins inside), Chandler Zener, Chandler Curve Bender, Neve Summing Mixer 8816, Dangerous Monitor ST/SR, Genelecs 8040 / 8020 and Auratones.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Oh boy... there are so many... Let me se... Artists like Led, Sabbath, Alice in Chains, John Bonham, Rick Springfield, James Taylor, Metallica. Professionals like CLA, Kremer, Al Schmitt, Bruce Swedien, Kevin Churko just to name a few.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: Mixing, mastering and production.
