Endorse Blake LeBlancWe (Boha Tribe) have worked with Blake at Mayfiekd on two projects so far. One was a live recording & the other an instrumental. For the live one, gathering with 14 musicians and singer’s & capturing the best of the day was no easy feat, but Blake nailed it. We were beyond impressed with the end product pre-mastering. The second occasion we tracked some instrumentation together snd got creative, colors outside the lines a bit with adding stomps and claps and other creative character to the songs.
I will definitely continue working with Blake in the future and recommend his services.
Blake is by far one of the best. Not only is he a great producer/engineer but he’s also a great musician with the abilities to take your project to the next level. I’ve worked with Blake on multiple projects and every time he has wow’d me with his attention to detail and the over all finished product. I could not recommend him enough!
I’ve worked with Blake many times on a variety of projects. He is an excellent musician with the ability to create & communicate ideas fluently. He is extremely refined at his craft & pays meticulous attention to detail when it comes to recording, mixing & engineering. Blake is also super cool guy who is very easy to work with. I highly recommend him as a repeat satisfied customer!
Very professional environment and very easy to work with. Blake knows what he's doing and I couldn't recommend him more!
Interview with Blake LeBlanc
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: What is your goal? What sound are you trying to achieve? What did you like about your last mixing experience? What didn’t you like about your last mixing experience?
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: EL8-X Distressor Compressor. UREI 1176 Compressor. Neve 1073 Preamp. Neve Portico II Bus Processor, Pultec EQP-1A EQ.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I started recording myself and my band at age 13. I learned from trial and error until later in life when I befriended a seasoned engineer, Nathan Lawson. He showed me the ropes and is responsible for most of what I know today. Around the time local bands heard some of my tracks and started offering me money to record their band. The rest is history. This is my passion and I absolutely love what I do.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Clean & Punchy.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: Jason Isbel. I love the rawness of his performances and he is a great songwriter.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Less is more. Balancing, EQ, Compression, and a little Reverb & Delay can go a long way. You don't have to overprices everything.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Rock, Americana, Pop, Worship,
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: My ability to hear a track and imagine the end result before even touching a fader.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: Energy, Feel, & Polish,
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: Everything starts with a conversation with the artist and determining what their expectations are and what they are trying to achieve. Once that is determined, I begin to build a rough mix to send back to the artist. I like to keep them involved in the mix process and cater the final product to what they want.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I mix entirely in the box. I run Logic Pro X on my 2021 MacBook Pro M1 and mostly use Waves suite of plugins and some Slate Digital.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Dave Pensado, Chris Lord-Alge, Tom Lord-Alge, Bob Clearmountain.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I specialize in mixing but do a little bit of it all. I operate a private home studio where I provide recording services. I also mix, master, produce, and offer songwriting support. I have several session musicians available upon request.
