Gekkō on SoundBetter

Hi! I'm a Hip Hop and R&B producer from Uruguay with 7+ years of experience. I started as a songwriter, learning beatmaking to bring my ideas to life. Soon, I began producing for other artists who connected with my style. I specialize in creating unique beats and productions tailored to your vision. Let’s create something amazing!

I’ve studied music production and sound engineering at university for over 4 years, but what has truly shaped my skills is working closely with artists. My focus has always been understanding their visions and using my expertise to bring their ideas and emotions to life. My goal is to create songs that are not only creative and full of feeling but also achieve a polished, professional sound through careful mixing and mastering.

My services include beatmaking, song arranging, editing, mixing, and mastering. Whether you're starting from scratch or refining an existing track, I’m here to help you bring your vision to reality.

What sets me apart, according to my clients, is my ability to understand and empathize with the artist’s perspective and intentions. My goal is to collaborate with you to create a song or album that reflects your emotions and artistry while delivering a high-quality sound that connects with your audience. Let’s work together and create!

Interview with Gekkō

  1. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  2. A: There are good and bad producers, of course. But the best way to get a great product is to find the producer that understands you the most and matches you style the best.

  3. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  4. A: My acoustic guitar, computer, audio interface and dynamic mic and my pair of headphones. I'd love to take the creative act by Rick Rubin, it's a book so idk if it counts.

  5. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  6. A: I started writing lyrics in 2016 and producing in late 2018.

  7. Q: How would you describe your style?

  8. A: Profound, expressive and very original.

  9. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  10. A: Kanye, that's the top number one for me. Also Duki, a rapper from Argentina. I've already learned so much from them so one of my dreams is to thank them personally and be able to create something together that could inspire lots of other musicians.

  11. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  12. A: When something feels just right but is technically not perfect, ignore everything you know about production. Feeling is the number one most important aspect of any way of art. In the other hand, how you perform and record a piece is the foundation of the overall project.

  13. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  14. A: I love hip hop and electronic music, sound-design and beat arranging makes my mind get to new states of creating. But acoustic or live music has always filled my heart.

  15. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  16. A: I'm very creative and great at problem solving (or just finding solutions). I'm also very empathic so my priority is always to capture the idea first and then applying my knowledge and own creativity.

  17. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  18. A: Originality. But also that feeling of 'Yeah! That's exactly what I wanted'.

  19. Q: What's your typical work process?

  20. A: Listen to the idea or song's demo, ask for or find references together and then start composing/beatmaking. After that comes the song recording and editing of vocals. I love the stage of mixing when everything turns more technical and mastering gets the songs to it's perfect sound.

  21. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  22. A: It started as a home studio but it has turned into a more professional environment. I work using professional studio monitors, dynamic and condenser microphones, midi gear, electric and acoustic guitars and M1 Macbook Air. My main DAW is Logic Pro, where I sound-design using digital synths and mix using vst's from waves, universal audio, etc.

  23. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  24. A: My main sources of inspiration are artists/producers such as Kanye West, Tyler the Creator, Metro Booming, Rick Rubin, Nick Mira and some from Argentina like Asan, Duki, Khea and Dillom.

  25. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  26. A: Normally clients come with and idea and I ask for references. I start working and try a couple versions until the client is satisfied. After that me and the client develop the piece until it turns into a ready project.
