Interview with KG's Mixing and Mastering

  1. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  2. A: I can bring life and emotion to your music without over processing and we also offer fast turn arounds for those last minute projects.

  3. Q: What's your typical work process?

  4. A: First I usually take a solid listen through the whole song I am working on to see what I feel like should be done first. Most of the time I will get any editing and tuning out of the way first so when it comes time to really mix I don't get distracted as easily by other issues there might be in a project.

  5. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  6. A: I like outboard gear so I have a couple racks filled with gear like SSL, SPL, Maag Audio, Dangerous Music, Avalon and more! This stuff sounds great on pretty much anything if used correctly.

  7. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  8. A: Anything from vocal editing to mastering and metadata for distribution and release

  9. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  10. A: I like the best of both worlds. I run vocals through an analog preamp and maybe a compressor but everything else I do is mainly digital.

  11. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  12. A: Some people think mastering will fix a bad mix. And some people think mixing will make a bad recording sound good, but that's not the case. The key to a great record starts with a great recording and production.

  13. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  14. A: A great track always starts with a great recording and production. If you record your song in a bathroom with a lot of room sound and un needed reverb, there is limited work I can do to make things sounds professional and up to par with what is on the radio today.

  15. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  16. A: Most days I'm working on Hip-Hop, Rap and Metal/Rock music but I'm open to work on any genre of music.

  17. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  18. A: I feel that my strongest skill is vocal editing or mixing vocals.
