Interview with Mattia Zanella
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: "The In Between" EP by The Two Romans. I sang, played guitars, produced a lot of synths and background stuff, wrote all the songs.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: Album Nr. 2 of The Two Romans.
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: Not yet.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Digital. It's cheaper and it's so good.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: I'll do my best :)
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: I love everything about music, but must of all, I love having a creative output.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: Laptop, little pre-amp (no matter which one), an electric guitar, good headphones and a decent microphone.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I'm a performing artist since 2015. I started producing mostly demos in 2018
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: Ryan Tedder: he's the God of songwriting. Tyler Joseph (TØP) would be super interesting and Aaron Dessner (The National). Oh, Jack Antonoff of course too.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: The less the more. Easy to say, super hard to do.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Pop-Rock / Singersongwriter / Indie / Folk
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Music and melody.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: Everything :)
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: I am impulsive and quick. I go with the flow and find inspiration very quickly. I'm best at melodies and production. Lyrically, I am good, but a bit slower. Therefore, I'd rather start with the music and the jump into lyrics than the other way around.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: Very basic. I love working on logic and use a Focusrite Scarlett 2i2. I use a Helix for my guitar sounds and own a hand-full of beautiful sounding guitars.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Imagine Dragons, One Republic, Twenty One Pilots, FUN!, Gang of Youths, Amber Run
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: Songwriting and Demo production.
