Interview with Annie Scherer
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: When I was 6 I started receiving classical piano training, which I continued for 13 years. I began writing music shortly after I learned piano, and had my first professional recording experience when I was 15. In 2021, I received my bachelors degree in music industry and moved to Nashville.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: I would love to work with Jack Antonoff. He's created a lot of music similar to my writing style.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Sometimes less is more. It's best not to overthink a song and let it flow naturally.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: My music as an artist is alt-pop, so I tend to write mostly in pop music. I've written in all types of genres however, including country, R&B, and rock.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: I have a great ear and I create catchy tunes. I'm trained in music theory and classical piano, so I can create a chord structure that is very simple, or a song that is more complex.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: Emotion is really important to me. I want listeners to feel something with every song they hear. Strong melodies and relatable lyrics are equally valuable, so I always aim to achieve those things.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: My priority is to make my clients happy. I always complete projects efficiently and to the best of my ability. Once I receive a job, I begin working on it immediately.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I have a fully equipped home studio that includes a MIDI keyboard, various microphones and speakers, and a couple interfaces. I am certified in Pro Tools, but I prefer to use Logic.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: I am a big fan of Lana Del Rey, Taylor Swift, Lorde, and Billie Eilish. Of course I love the classics too, such as the Beatles, and The Rolling Stones.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I mostly write lyrics and melodies.
