Endorse Homesick Alien ProductionsThe custom song I received that was written, produced, and sung by Indica is a timeless gift and it's something I can cherish forever. The lyrics are so special and she really included some special moments and some thought provoking music that really helps paint a picture of a certain time for us. On my end a really great gift to receive, I’m so thankful for it, and thank you so much Indica. You did amazing and I couldn’t ask for anything better.
She totally blew me away with her creativity, putting our experiences and my love for my partner, and just every little detail that I gave her, she made it work into her writing process for the song. She was such an incredible listener. Everything that she comes up with is so original and heartfelt it was just so amazing. She is just such an incredible person to work with, and so professional on so many levels. I would definitely recommend Indica as an artist that you should work with. Thank you Indica, you've totally changed everything for us.
Interview with Homesick Alien Productions
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: Writing a synth part to a dance pop song, and then toplining for it. Also, toplining an alt/indie rock song.
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: Kris Bradley, Michael Averill.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: I love creating music, how it's creative but that there is also a math and science to it. I love music production especially, because I love sound and feel like a mad scientist in the DAW!
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: What is a custom song? How does it work? --A custom song is an amazing gift for any occasion, like weddings, anniversaries, proposals, birthdays, holidays, graduation, and more. I work close with you to create a song from scratch in the genre you'd like, top to bottom, about it including lyrics, melody, vocals and music. --We set up a time to video chat over zoom or a social media video chat. You tell me your feelings about who it's for, like memories, special moments, must have's in the song. Then, you tell me how fast or slow you'd like the song to be, mood, feelings you'd like it to inspire, and genre. Also, a reference song you would like the song to sound similar to. I record the song in my studio, produce the track, give you an mp3, and a copy of the song lyrics. Prior to the final recording, I will ask your opinion of the song so that you are totally happy and satisfied- my ultimate goal!
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: Perhaps that I would be more unprofessional because of my hair or style, when I couldn't care more that I am communicative and give my clients a product they will be happy with.
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Give me as much info you have on the chords in the song, and reference tracks you would like what I create to sound like. Be as communicative as possible with what you'd like, and I will be with the process back! : )
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I started writing songs when I was about 10. I was in band in high school and scored well on a song I wrote for a music theory class, and decided to purse the art form. When I went to college, I didn't get accepted into their Audio Engineering program, so I pursed Music Business. I moved to NYC after college and pursued being an artist. This is where I got to revisit and learn my love of music production. I took private lessons and pursued that for 7 years, and have been taking voice lessons for the last two. Then at the beginning of the pandemic I started taking all the online classes and courses that I could on songwriting and music production. Next I came to the program from Kris Bradly, when I had been looking for an answer on whether to go back to school or not. Which has led me here! I have been pursuing and learning production for the last ten years, and more adimately along with songwriting the last two.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Start with a reference track.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I bring a vocal performance that has a lot of personality, expressiveness, can be more high and subdued electro pop or in your face and aggressive rock. I like to play with different pronunciations, noises (like that of Karen O), while also adding ear candy to choruses. I'm trained and continuing to perfect my craft of songwriting, and how to write songs that paint a picture lyrically while having an expressive melody. For production, I bring a vast imagination, creativeness, and passion to create magical tracks.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: When writing a song and recording vocals, I first listen to the track, and see what inspiration comes to me off the bat. If there is no track, I write or put together samples that sound inspiring and give off a vibe. Lyrics flow very naturally to me. I'll record this, see if I like the hook I came up with and then start building off that. I'll make sure the melody has catchy elements to it, rhythm, space, contour, and check things like rhyme scheme and syllable scheme. Once I'm happy with the hook, I'll start to build out verses, the arrangement, and repeat the process for the different sections that seem fitting for the song.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Grimes-- she has been a huge music producer first and then artist that has inspired me. Other female artists with production credits, Bjork, MIA, FKA Twigs.
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: I wrote and sang the vocal on this song called "I Don't Like Boys". I was inspired instantly when I heard the track, wrote it all very quickly, loved the hook, and I did the vocal production. It was the most vocal production I had done so far, and love the BGD vox and ear candy I came up with. It's very catchy, I've gotten really good feedback, and overall it was a really great process that I executed quickly!
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Digital- having everything in your DAW and computer, making your workspace portable, and for editing as well, is amazing.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: That I really want to work with them to give them something that they love and are ultimately happy with.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: If it's for vocal/toplining, any concepts they may already have. I always want reference tracks, as it helps guide the direction.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: My laptop, my external hard drive drive, my Arutira midi controller, microphone and audio interface.and headphones.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Dance-y, alternative, synth, aggressive expressive and light and dreamy. Ethereal. A bit of duality.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: TR/ST, I really admire their dark synth pop sound, would like to study it more, and the performance and diversity of their vocals.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Electro pop.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Songwriting.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I have a MacBook laptop, Monitor, two studio monitors for mixing, I use Audio Technica Headphones,
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I most commonly sing and write songs, then make custom songs for my clients.
