Music is my passion and my job. Interview with Andrea

  1. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  2. A: Giuliano Vozella, he is an excellent producer, songwriter, guitarist and mix engineer

  3. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  4. A: digital because I'm poor, even if I think that in 2023 this question hasn't a lot of sense

  5. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  6. A: i will do my best every day to make you happy for have chosen me

  7. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  8. A: the fact that every song, every day is different and has his own challenge

  9. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  10. A: technique is more important than music. Technique is only a means to an end...the music.

  11. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  12. A: I started playing drums at the age of 2 as a self thought then I started studying and making gigs at the age of 11. At the age of 18 I started touring all over Italy with different bands and simultaneously entered in different studios for recording session as a band member and session musician for rock, funk and metal acts. Started studying jazz music at the conservatory of music in Bari (Italy) in 2017, this experience gave me the opportunity to start playing in a jazz trio, big bands and a fusion sextet. I took a master degree with full marks in jazz music at the conservatory of music in Bari (Italy) in 2022 with a degree thesis on the music of Frank Zappa.

  13. Q: How would you describe your style?

  14. A: versatile, energic,

  15. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  16. A: thanks to my profession journey, I have had the extreme luck to play in almost every kind of musical genre, from jazz music to metal, but lately I am more focused on pop rock, edm and rap gigs with different artists and producers.

  17. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  18. A: for shure, my strongest skill is Technique. It allows you to transform your thoughts and imagination, into motion on your instrument so that you don't have to mind about things like the speed of a song or other things, you only have to think about playing music.

  19. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  20. A: I bring nothing but my style of interpreting and serving the music, if the author gives me the opportunity to bring some of my estro into the song I'm totally happy with it; if not , I'm just happy to serve his music in the best way I can.

  21. Q: What's your typical work process?

  22. A: I usually ask the client for some references, to understand in a better way the result and the sound that he would like to hear on his finished work, then I listen to the preproduction (if there is one) and try to fit the drum part into the song (I do this work a few times to learn the song even better before the recording), and finally I record the song when I think that the drum part fits perfectly into the song.

  23. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  24. A: i have two different drum kits in order to have more versatility depending on what musica genre I'm working on. One mama starcalssic walnut birch (22, 10, 12, 14, 16) and a Gretch Catalina jazz kit (18,12,14). I have 5 different snare drums everyone different from the other in terms of diameter, depth, and material. I usually use akg, share and audio technica mics, with an Audient id14, behringer umc-1820 and an Audient adat.
