Interview with Brandon5tewar7
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: Mainly my solo band, I've always been in bands but taking the step forward to be my own production was so scary but being the song-writer, singer, Guitarist, Keyboard player and manager is so so rewarding.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: I'm working on lots of solo music, session work as well as university work to get my degree finished, alongside part time teaching.
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: My friend, Colleague and Producer Sam French, phenomenal work ethic and always has great products.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: There's nothing wrong with both, I just use a lot of digital as it's more accessible and easy for me to use.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: Your job will be done no matter what, and I'll love doing it.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: To be honest, just the music, it's the only thing I've felt like me doing, and that's always going to be enough for me.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: Usually what equipment I have and how many song I can do.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: Probably that it's impossible to do it, I'm 21 and I've already got my job teaching, if I can do it anyone can.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: When is this project due? How much do you want me to do?
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Just keep yourself in the loop and stay as involved as possible, I love working for people but it's quicker when you are 100% clear with what you want.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: Provided that it works on a desert, Ibanez AZ, Neural DSP Quad Cortex, Electric Drum kit, Ibanez 6 string bass and Korg Kronos.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I just want to keep doing more and more music, I'm already fully self employed as a tutor and session musician but I want to do more.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: My style is very rocky but has many prog, pop and funk influences to ensure a song is always catchy and not just complicated because I can.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: I'd love to work with the band Dirty Loops, they have such a fun an unique style which I'd love to pick their brains about and write alongside.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: If it sounds good already, you don't need to throw all of your expensive things at it just because you can.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: I usually work with original music, but I also do lots of work in covers bands as a session/dep musician.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: My strongest skill is probably my guitar playing or my song composition, I do these skills on a regular basis and is as regular as breathing at this point.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I bring just a personal character to a song, I can add small bits to push it further, or I can take full creative freedom and make anything from Prog to Pop.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: To put it simply, my workflow is, I'm given a task and a deadline, and it gets done.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I'm located in a home studio, equipped with a custom spec production PC running Pro tools, with the full native instruments komplete 13 ultimate collectors edition at my disposal, I also have the FabFilter total bundle along with many other amazing plugins like the neural dsp stuff, GroveBass, GGD among many others, my hardware setup consists of a pair of studio matched Yamaha HS8s with a Neural DSP QuaCortex.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: I'm really inspired by independent modern prog musicians like Plini, Simon Grove and Nolly, the way that they are all fully self managed and do lots of things to build their brand, I also love any sort of session musicians that you may see, such as Adam Neely, where he receives a setlist, learns it and gets the job done to 100% of his ability.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: The type of work I do most often is songwriting and composing, mainly due to my personal projects and university projects, but this doesn't mean I wont do anything else, if it's got something to do with music I'll do it in a heartbeat
