Endorse DARTH "Denver" MOONDarth Moon by far is one of the best at what he does
Very understanding and also adjust to your needs of sound to your ear. If you want a good quality mix your record this is the guy to contact.Darth Moon, in my opinion, has solidified his spot on this generation’s Mt. Rushmore of audio engineers. He brings a refreshing vibe to any studio session and is completely locked into the creation of the record. He’s super intentional about the entire process. I trust Darth 110% to make sure I leave the studio with a masterpiece.
I simply refuse to do a recording session if Darth Moon isn’t the tracking engineer. He brings his amazing skill set along with his unmatched demeanor, temperament and energy. His ability to execute anything I can dream up in terms of sound and effect is second to none. First option hands down when it comes to tracking and/or mixing. All around solid guy.
Interview with DARTH "Denver" MOON
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: To give them the best product that makes them prideful in their own art and excited to work with me again in the future.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: Neve 1073 Tube Tech CL1-B Telefunken ELAM 251 MacBook Pro ATC SCM25A
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I've been engineering now for 10 years professionally. I got my start working with multi-platinum producer WLPWR as his main tracking engineer working with artist like Yelawolf, BIG K.R.I.T., and Trinidad James. I then entered a management role at Twelve Music Group and met Antonio Reid and Aaron Reid that eventually lead to me working for them to this day and doing work for their father LA Reid's label HITCO with artist like Saint Jhn, LightSkinKeisha, Yella Bezzy, and Coca Vango. Q: How would you describe your style?
A: I'm a chameleon, I blend in to any environment I'm in or with any kind of music that is thrown at me. I'm called Darth Moon for a reason, I'm the quiet one in the room. I observe and I overcome any obstacle that's put in front of me. And I always win when my ears touch music.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: Kanye West. He's the greatest artist/producer of my generation. And just watching his journey and transition to the greatest of all time has been one of the biggest thing that got me into working in the industry and wanting to be on the highest level I can be on. And I know working with him would be some of the most incredible moments in music for me, and I know it would be some of his best music to ever be made.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Do what feels right, Always.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: I try my best to not put myself in one lane when it comes to music. I love all kinds of genres and always want to work on something different whenever I can. But I mainly work on Hip-Hop/Trap/Drill and R&B. I have a huge HUGE love for singers cause I can really create something magical with stacks and tons of harmonies.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: I push the boundaries and break norms, I pride myself on making everything in a mix pop, and have the best separation and clarity and having the cleanest vocal you can imagine.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I bring the vision in to finish the song and put at its highest competitive level. I bring flavor and variety, I treat every song like it's own story and do my best to give the best version of it.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: When it comes to a mix I always open the sessions and do any organizational things if needed to be done. I also listen to the rough mix a few times through as I'm importing my template and doing any routing that needs to be done. I then start working on the mix and I'll work on it for about an hour and bounce and starting taking notes and doing different listing test in AirPods, home floor speakers, and then a car test. I then work on it more and make adjustments and then send over a version to the artist then start doing adjustments from there till it sounds to their liking.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I'm definitely an in the box guy right now. I've got all the major plugins that all the big engineers use and are super common in most studio environments. I have plans to have a huge overhaul of my setup this year, with switching to a hybrid setup with mix summing, stereo bus compressor, EQ, and Burl conversion. Also switching over to Amphion monitoring, and the room I work in at home is a pretty dead room so acoustically.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: I've been inspired from multiple generations of musicians and all music professionals. I grew up playing drums so I've been heavily inspired in that aspect from Neil Peart, John Bonham, Ring Star, and Keith Moon. Then producers likes Quincy Jones, Rick Rubin, Kanye West, Mike Dean. Engineers like Dave Pensado, Jacyen Joshua, and Leslie Brathwaite.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I come to the table with any artist to push them to their limits and bring them to their maximum sonic quality. I build relationships with them and learn what they like and who their influences are, see what music they're into at the time or even music that's inspired them to be doing what they're doing now. I love to build with an artist and do full projects with them cause you find that constant sound or pull from an influence and make the whole project a true work of art from start to finish.
