Q: What do you like most about your job?

A: Being able to be involved with peoples expression of individuality, history and life through song is an experience I am grateful to do and to write/create/record a part for someone else's song is a real privilege to be a part of. Having that first discussion with the client is a very exciting feeling, being able to work on something new and different every-time is a creatives dream. Also the excitement the client has when receiving the tracks for their song is a very rewarding feeling, knowing that you are a part of their creative expression through sound and to hear them pleased with your involvement makes it a very fulfilling job.

Q: What's your typical work process?

A: Upon receiving a tune from a client, unlike a lot of guitar players I'm not likely to pick up the nearest guitar and start playing whatever springs to mind. I find its essential to listen to the song, listen again, and listen even more. I like to truly understand the intention, the feeling, the aura of a song before beginning to write or record. Once I have a good understanding of the song and some basic ideas in mind, I then take to picking up my guitar and begin to record some rough demos. On request I can send these demos to the client to ensure what they envision and what I'm creating are along the same spectrum. I think transparency and communication is essential between the session player and the client in order to achieve the best outcome for both involved. From this I then refine those ideas, incorporate different fx's, pedals, amps and whatever else me and the client feel like the track requires. Once again I send these finalised tracks to the client and provide 2 revisions to get them to a place where the client is happy with how they sound. I can then send both wet and dry tracks over, and can double track where required to really bring the songs to life.
