Session guitarist with 15+ years of studio experience, specializing in Rock, Americana, Country, Pop, and ambient/textural guitar parts. My goal is to create tasteful, commercial ready guitar parts that will serve your song.
I am an Ohio based session guitarist, specializing in Rock, Americana, Country, Pop, and ambient/textural guitar parts. I am most influenced by guitarists whose parts best serve the song, such as Mike Campbell of Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers. I have been playing for 20+ years, and have worked on countless studio/session projects over the last 15+ years.
I have a wide range of gear (guitars, amps, pedals, etc.) to accommodate the needs of your song. I am friendly and easy to work with and enjoy communicating back and forth to ensure you will be happy with the results!

Interview with Matthew Owen
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: I love the creativity that writing guitar parts requires, and I love using that creativity to help an artist bring their song to life
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: Gibson ES-335, Fender Telecaster, Matchless HC-30 amplifier, Strymon Flint reverb/tremolo, Strymon El Capistan tape delay
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Rock, Country, Ambient, Pop, Americana, Folk
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: My strongest skill is writing tracks that have great tone and support a song, not overtake it.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I bring creativity and an understanding of how guitar tracks can be layered to work together and ultimately support the song. I am obsessed with guitar tone, so you can be assured that the tracks you receive will have a strong emphasis put on a high quality guitar tone.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: I like to start by listening to the song with the direction I've received from the artist. As I listen, I start thinking about how I can layer in guitar parts where necessary. I'll then start playing along with the track a number of times before I work out my parts, and then I'll record until I get the right take for the track.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I have a professional home studio set up using and record into Logic using a Universal Audio Apollo interface.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I typically write and record guitar tracks for rock, pop, ambient, and Americana style songs.
