"Working with Chameleon Audio is an absolute privilege. I knew nothing about music when I came up with the idea of producing my first album. We have been working together for nearly 3 years now, and I have improved so much!

In one specific instance, for a song called Muhammed Ali, Carl produced it exactly the way I had it in my mind, but then I listened to more songs as reference and I asked him to change it according to one of the references that I sent. He nailed it at the first attempt. Eventually, that was the song that won me a contract with a label a month after the release.

I’ve worked with Chameleon Audio on two large projects four years apart, one being a sound poetry album and recently a multi-disciplinary art website.

Their multi-faceted creative thinking produced processes that were highly effective, delivered on time and within budget, characterized by their problem-solving ability, patience, and ability to understand and deliver creative aims.

Chameleon Audio’s attention to detail makes them a trusted collaborator.

Interview with Carl Mills @ Chameleon Audio

  1. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  2. A: Start off with the basics of mastering EQ, Compression and Reverb. Once you know how to apply these processes inside out you'll be able to get your track most of the way to completion before embellishing with more interesting effects.

  3. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  4. A: At age 11 my classical guitar teacher informed me I had a natural gift for music, so I initially followed an academic pursuit of music, culminating in a grade 8 guitar certification and a 1st class BSc Honours in Music Technology & Audio Systems. I then began researching and composing within music intertextuality, leading to compositions that spanned the breadth of contemporary music, weaving genres seamlessly. These compositions and their accompanying installations were exhibited at many notable art galleries including the Vortex Art Gallery in West Yorkshire. During this time I began my freelance career through recommendations and word of mouth, creating compositions, recording songs, and mixing tracks for local artists and then for a global clientele as session musicians called upon me for my guitar and mixing capabilities. I started Chameleon Audio as a means to consolidate my services and expand on the successes of previous client work.

  5. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  6. A: Creating a spoken word album for acclaimed performance artist Claire Robertson of Bluelead Projects. We introduced each piece with a cimbalom, a Hungarian stringed instrument that possesses a unique resonance created from its trapezial structure. I was the producer, mixing engineer, and composer for each track, ensuring consistency, high fidelity and letting Claire's creativity flourish and providing my own input to embellish her work where appropriate.
