Interview with Jonathan Lee

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: My most memorable project was when I was hired by Kenzo Clothing & Fashion to make songs for their Fall/Winter runway show & festival.

  3. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  4. A: One music production tip is to NEVER export a song as a .mp3 if you're looking to get your song mastered. .mp3 has compressed audio. Always export your songs as .WAV for mastering. .WAV is un-compressed, raw audio.

  5. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  6. A: The type of music I usually work on is anything Electronic, or Rap/Hip-Hop

  7. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  8. A: On the technical side, my strongest skill is music production. That includes mixing/mastering and sound engineering. On the instrument side, my strongest skill is in trumpet playing. I've been playing trumpet for the last 6 years, and I am excellent in lead jazz playing and classical trumpet playing.

  9. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  10. A: After my process of mixing and mastering, I bring out a song's "true colors", meaning I turn a song from amature & dull, to professional, powerful, and ultra high quality.

  11. Q: What's your typical work process?

  12. A: My typical work process for mixing & mastering would be to analyze the audio to listen for under-runs, loud, unbalanced tracks, and proper frequency correction.

  13. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  14. A: I have a home studio setup. To put it shortly, i have two computers with high end specs, a multi-display setup, multiple high end MIDI keyboards & microphones, as well as many studio monitors and headphones. I use FLstudio 12 with almost all of the most popular plugins like Sylenth1, Nexus and Serum.

  15. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  16. A: I am inspired by most electronic music styles, including Dubstep, EDM, House and Trance. I am also heavily influenced by jazz music, mainly by Dizzy Gillespie and Arturo Sandoval.

  17. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
