Interview with Stonecraft Audio
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: I usually work with hip hop, electronic, and acoustic music.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I bring a fresh perspective to the project. Having worked hands-on with music my entire life, and having an abundant music-listening past, I am able to translate certain elements that conform to today's audio listening expectations. Mixing and mastering is all about solving problems. I solve problems that many people didn't even know they had, and in the end, deliver results that exceed expectations.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: For engineering, I will listen to the raw track to get a feel for what needs to be done. Then I'll reference some music in the same vein as what I'm working on. I typically work in Ableton Live. Depending on the purpose of the project, I may run some additional monitoring for compatibility and technical requirements.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: Sure! So I've recently upgraded my hardware and software arsenal. Hardware List: MacBook Pro, OS X Yosemite Native Instruments Komplete Audio 6 (Audio Interface) Yamaha HS8's mounted on IsoAcoustics monitor stands Native Instruments Maschine Native Instruments Komplete S61 Keyboard SubPak 2 Bass Monitoring System Blue Spark microphone Audio-Technica ATH-M35 headphones Software List: Ableton Live 9 Suite Native Instruments Komplete 10 Ultimate Quantum Leap East West Complete Composer's Collection (Ministry of Rock 2, Voices of Passion, Hollywood Strings, Hollywood Brass, Hollywood Woodwinds, The Dark Side, Symphonic Choirs) Logic Pro X Native Instruments Maschine 2 software FabFilter Total Bundle
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I mostly get requests for mixing and/or mastering services. Occasionally, I will receive a request to produce custom music for a project.
