Mingus Sol Parker on SoundBetter

Session Guitarist, Engineer, Mixer and Audio Editor dedicated to doing it right!

I have been playing fretted instruments and mastering my craft for a little over 10 years. I have a large collection of instruments and a great recording setup to cover any sonic possibility/ tone requested. I listen to every genre and I'm confident I'll be able to deliver what you're looking for. I'm also an experienced engineer currently working in a studio in London and love to deliver mixed stems, aswell as dry/ unprocessed files to save my clients some time. My typical turnaround time is 24 hours, but I can deliver recordings on the same day for the most part.

My signal chain consists of some of the top amplifiers, guitars, preamps and microphones in the industry. I use a variety of gear for different styles of music. I will work with you until you are 100% happy with the result. I work remotely but can assure you a fluent communication and fast turnaround time.

Every project is different, so don't hesitate to shoot me a message and we'll discuss everything I can bring to your track!

I'm also able to help create parts (riffing over a tune, full arrangements, background parts, etc.).

Send me an email through the "contact" button above and let's record!

Would love to hear from you. Click the contact button above to get in touch.

Interview with Mingus Sol Parker

  1. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  2. A: Mostly session playing and engineering remotely and in person.

  3. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  4. A: I'm fairly new to Soundbetter but I can't wait to meet new people!

  5. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  6. A: The tone and character of analog is superior to me, however I've heard great digital mixes so I guess it depends on the skill of the user!

  7. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  8. A: My promise is the client will receive what they want every single time, without a doubt. And I wont stop working on the project until they are satisfied.

  9. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  10. A: A big misconception is that session players don't take as much care in the recording/mixing process. This is something that's very important to me.

  11. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  12. A: I always ask the client to send me adjectives to describe what they need. Sometimes people know what they want but dont know how to put it into words, so that's a great way to catch the vibe from them.

  13. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  14. A: An original Torres guitar, A cassette recorder, A pair of Neumann km54s and my Macbook. That's the dream.

  15. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  16. A: I've been playing guitar nonstop for over 10 years. Playing guitar in sessions has been my favourite thing to do.

  17. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  18. A: I would love to play guitar for a Netflix show. Some TV projects would be really cool!

  19. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  20. A: Stay organized at all times, collaborate openly and trust your initial instinct.

  21. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  22. A: Literally everything, as much as I can... I love being introduced to unique genres I haven't discovered yet!

  23. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  24. A: The textures and sonic characteristics that were missing from the record before.

  25. Q: What's your typical work process?

  26. A: I would say my workflow varies to accomodate for the different genres/clients I am working with.

  27. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  28. A: I am Primarily running Logic Pro X and Pro Tools on a MacBook Pro with a Universal Audio interface. I currently have a U47, AEA R88 and a 60s Reslo setup 24/7 running into my UAD twin-finity tube preamp. I love this setup because I can make quick sketches of ideas very quickly and makes my workflow super efficient.

  29. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  30. A: I played guitar on a record called "Brand New" by an artist called Perri Jones. I'm proud of her and that I got to work on some R&B music.

  31. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  32. A: I get to do what I love every day and I get exposed to so many different people. I learn something new every day.

  33. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  34. A: Most clients send me reference tracks and ask If I can deliver a simiar sound. My answer is always Yes.

  35. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  36. A: I would say hiring session musicians will cost a decent amount in the long run, however you get what you pay for and a higher sense of qualiy.

  37. Q: How would you describe your style?

  38. A: I like to really dive deep into the genre/style I'm working for and take it from there.
