Marcin Pater on SoundBetter

Hi, I have been mixing, mastering and producing for over 10 years. If you do interesting musical things, but you have no idea how to put them together (mix, master) or you have an outline of a song but you don't know what to do with it (production) - just write to me and let's start talking, I will help and guarantee that you will be satisfied:)

I have worked with many artists on smaller and larger projects, please visit my website, where you can find my selected portfolio.

I feel comfortable in any genre, but I am closest to alternative, pop and electronic music.

Mutual understanding with the people I work with is very important to me in my work on broadly understood music (regardless of whether I produce, compose, mix or master it). That's why I need to be sure what you expect from me so that I can give you what you want. So if you know what you want and know how to convey it, we will definitely get along.

Mixing time is around 7 days, mastering is around 3 days depending on current projects. I set the dates of music productions individually.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Marcin is not only an incredibly talented producer, but also an amazing person. Like none of the producers I've been working so far, he's always been able to shed a new light on the principal idea. He's a brilliant concept thinker and a team-player with enthusiastic approach towards songwriting process. Marcin helped me progress mentally and practically as a musician through conversation, listening and experimenting. Finishing sounds with Marcin Pater is based on intelligent engineering techniques and wild solutions. In his work he often makes use of rare devices, instruments and plugins.

Marcin is a great producer and a fantastic person. He likes unconventional solution and have a head full of ideas. I did with him few records, each stylistically different from the previous one and on each he found great sounds and gear for what was needed. He is very creative and warm person and have lots of knowledge. He is also an artist producer not just person who push the "record" button. He is great for mixing and recordings, and he is also a great sound engineer for live concerts. I can recommended Marcin to everyone who looking for something great.

Interview with Marcin Pater

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: Each project gives me a lot of joy. It's hard for me to point to a single album or song, but if I have to point to anything, it's Clock Machine's album "Prognozy" because I was a co-composer, producer, recording engineer and mixing engineer. The album was very well received in Poland and thanks to it we played a lot of great concerts.

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: Runforrest small EP (Producer, Mixing, Recording), Ursyn syn niedźwiedzia full album (Producer, Mixing, Mastering, Recording)

  5. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  6. A: Mainly analog, because I love to turn the knobs :), but digital gives amazing possibilities, especially in precise and advanced sound processing. I use both of these worlds and take the best of them.

  7. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  8. A: I will do my best to understand your vision and help you realize it. Working with me, I promises full professionalism, experience, knowledge, patience and my sensitivity to art.

  9. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  10. A: I like people and their sensitivity that shows in their music. When I mix and produce I feel like I'm painting a picture, I very like that feeling. I have a lot of fun creating and discovering new sounds.

  11. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  12. A: in short:) I have been working in the music industry for over 10 years. I started out as a FOH sound engineer at concerts a while later I started working in the studio. Now 90% of my work time is spent working in my studio doing mainly mix, master and productions. I have done many projects as a mix engineer, mastering engineer, recording engineer or producer. I am also a member of the Clock Machine band. I graduated from AGH University of Science and Technology from Kraków (PL), field of study: sound engineering in media and culture.

  13. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  14. A: I would like to work with Devendra and Skinshape because I like their musical imaginations. I really like the music approach to composingof Chet Faker, Kevin Parker, JMSN and Beck.

  15. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  16. A: The only rule is no rules ;)

  17. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  18. A: Usually it is alternative, alternative pop, rock, pop, electronica sometimes hip-hop and folk.

  19. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  20. A: The ability to see the most attractive qualities of a song and emphasize them (this applies to both demo songs and ready-made productions for mixing or mastering). Good communication with people, which always results in a successful project. Patience.

  21. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  22. A: I bring my fresh perspective, imagination, sensitivity, analytical hearing and quality.

  23. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  24. A: I works mainly on analog devices. I base my sound on them. I mixes and masters using analog compressors and equalizers of course I use plugins, but I use them more for organizing sessions and special tasks. When producing music, I most often use a self-made sample base composed of vinyl and other sound sources. I create project sketches on MPC and then develop them in DAW (Pro Tools). I have several synthesizers (Juno 106, SH-101, Bass Station II, Philips Philicorda, Casio, Unitra B11) and an acoustic piano.

  25. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  26. A: Dr Dre, Rick Rubin, Ludwig Goransson, Devendra Banhart, Finneas O’Connel, Aphex Twin, Omar Rodriguez Lopez, Skinshape, Beck ...and more :)

  27. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  28. A: Most often it is mixing and mastering as well as production or help with songs. Often musicians come to me with a guitar or piano melody and we build the whole song on the basis of that.
