Interview with Fede Redrummer

  1. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  2. A: I'm currently working on from 2 to 4 songs/projects per week and they are all different. I change my set-up so many times but I've never been happier than now.

  3. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  4. A: I'm a very balanced person so I think there are pros and cons on both sides. It's all about knowing WHEN to choose which.

  5. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  6. A: I've never received other than 5 stars reviews. The promise to maintain this standard is the one I do to myself before than anything else.

  7. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  8. A: EVERYTHING. Literally. Maybe the most beautiful thing is knowing that my drums are playing in some people's houses, cars or devices in some part of the world right now.

  9. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  10. A: Definitely a good portion of Lasagna. You don't need anything else.

  11. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  12. A: I'm a professional touring and studio musician and educator since I was 17 years old.

  13. Q: How would you describe your style?

  14. A: In one word? Organic I believe.

  15. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  16. A: Since the very beginning of my musical career, I've been interested in many different genres because I was fascinated by those musicians who could authentically play everything. And I mean TREMENDOUSLY WELL, not just approximately. That's why I strongly believe that there's only one kind of music: that one made WELL :)

  17. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  18. A: Everyone is different. Everyone has his own tastes, ideas and points of view. Since I've been lucky enough to work on both 'completely free-creative' and '100% written music' projects, I believe my strongest skill is to always being able and understand what the customer needs and provide it.

  19. Q: What's your typical work process?

  20. A: First of all, I make sure I have everything I need from the customer to be sure I'll be serve his/her music the best I can so I ask as many informations as possible regarding the sound, the vibe and feel they are looking for. If they have a clear idea on what the drum part should be, I immediately start recording after they send me the material. Otherwise, I seat on my drum kit and I figure out different ideas that could fit the customer's requests the best.

  21. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  22. A: - PRE-AMPS: I can record up to 16 channels, through a UA Apollo 8xp and a Focusrite Clarett+ 8pre. - MICS: Beyerdynamic M160, M88TG, TG D70 MK II, Coles 4038, AKG C214, Shure Sm7b and Sm57, Warm Audio WA-47 jr. - DRUMS: Gretsch, Ludwig, Tama and Steeldrum Handmade Drums. - CYMBALS: Meinl Cymbals (up to 20 different cymbals) - Percussions: Meinl Luis Conte Sig. Congas, LP Matador Bongos, Meinl Timbale, LP Jamblocks and Cowbells, Meinl Shakers, Caxixis, Tambourines and Cabasas.

  23. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  24. A: I'm inspired by amazing professionals like Vinnie Colaiuta, Ash Soan Aaron Sterling and many others who record top ten singles/albums from their home-studio.

  25. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  26. A: I record drums and percussions for living and I've been fortunate enough to record many singles, EPs, Albums, Ads, Fictions and Films' soundtracks. No matter if the customer already knows what the drum part should be or not or what his/her goal is. I'll be honored and pleased to work for him/her and his music.
