Interview with Beats By LENY
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: Drake, He is very diverse in how approaches beats and I like switching between genres often.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Avoid looking at beats as complete tracks. Rather, make them be a foundation. This allows an artist freedom and space.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Hip-Hop, R&B, and Pop.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: My flexibility and ability to learn.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I am able to transform ideas into full-fledged songs. If a client gets stuck I am able to offer solutions and alternate insights.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: I'm very flexible and as long as you have a basic idea of what you want the beat to sound like we can build up from there. Alternatively, you might find it easier to give me an artist's reference you like. An example is that you can tell me you would like an Est Gee, Stunna Gambino, Deb Never,Joji or Kay Flacko inspired beat.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I have a home studio setup. The room is treated and I use an SE Electronics reflection filter as well. I record through an Audio Technica at4033. All of my inputs are run through SSL channels and proceed through a tube compressor. Currently, I am using FL studio for production and Studio One for recording and mixing.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Jay Electronica, Kanye West, Drake and PartyNextDoor
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I do mostly production work. I usually have to bring my clients' sounds into being,
