About:

Yaniza is a Jewish, biracial & bilingual singer-songwriter from New York City! She sings in English and Spanish and usually has a huge smile on her face :)

Yaniza initially grew her fanbase by posting acoustic covers of pop songs on her YouTube channel, which consistently garners tens of thousands of views. These days, Yaniza primarily reaches people with her original songs. She has had the opportunity to work with incredibly talented producers, including Gian Stone (Maroon 5, Jonas Brothers) and Joe LaPorta (Shawn Mendes, Imagine Dragons). Yaniza’s most popular original songs include “Fly Away (Free Bird),” a chill ukulele tune at 50,000 streams and counting, and “Contigo,” her first Spanish/English bop bound to get stuck in your head!

Yaniza performs regularly in music venues all over NYC, and recently embarked on her first cross country tour. Yaniza continues to perform at festivals, radio shows, colleges, and private events while writing songs that encourage listeners to find joy in everyday life.

Yaniza has a lovely voice - and unique too - it really impresses. She was very good to work with. I had some quite challenging requirements with regards to the phrasing and how I wanted my song sung - she was most accommodating and professional and I'm very happy with the result. Would gladly work with her again.

Interview with Yaniza

  1. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  2. A: I'm always working on new music and building up my ukulele students list. I also just signed with a booking agency and am starting to get some virtual shows. Hopefully I see you on the rode in-person some day!

  3. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  4. A: For production, I've worked with Malachi and Kornel Sylwester! They are both super different and both incredible! I could record your ukulele track and you can send it over to them to add the other awesome instruments :)

  5. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  6. A: I like to know what your project will be used for, how much time I have to complete the project, and any and all details you're willing to provide. The more info you give me, the less time we'll have to spend on revisions, and the less time you have to wait for your perfect track!

  7. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  8. A: Go with your gut! It's like a free, built-in fortune teller~

  9. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  10. A: I was a preschool teacher before shifting to pursuing music full-time! I absolutely love kids and continue to work with them through teaching lessons. But the schedule was not flexible enough for me to also pursue my passion of performing, recording, writing, and connecting with people around the world through music. I've been a musician for about 7 years, but the full time journey has just begun!

  11. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  12. A: I usually work on pop/top 40s style songs. That or slow, chill, acoustic singer-songwriter vibes.

  13. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  14. A: I bring attention to detail, quality sound, and just a gentle touch to every song. I don't slam on the strings or anything. I'm more of a finger-picking or smooth strumming kinda gal. To the project in general, I bring positive energy and commitment.

  15. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  16. A: I have a Rode Nt1 mic that I connect to my MacBook through a Scarlett Focusrite interface. I use a Taylor acoustic-electric guitar and Cordoba acoustic-electric ukulele. When I record instruments, I usually plug them into the interface and record them on the mic to make a nice blend. But, I can easily just use one or the other if that's your preference :)

  17. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  18. A: Recently, I've decided to shift gears to mostly record simple ukulele or guitar tracks for future clients. I had a lot of fun recording vocals, but for the most part, I'm letting my instrument experience shine now!
