Marty J. Brown on SoundBetter

Your music isn’t just sound, it’s a statement, and every detail matters. The right mix can be the difference between a good song and one that truly connects. One that moves people, tells your story, and feels exactly the way you imagined. i’m here to help you shape a sound that’s authentic, polished, and undeniably yours. Let’s achieve greatness!

I know how much your music means to you. It’s more than just sound—it’s your story, your passion, your vision coming to life. Every lyric, every melody, every beat carries something real, and that deserves to be heard in its purest, most powerful form. My job is to honor that, making sure your music doesn’t just sound good—it feels good.

Mixing is about more than balance and clarity; it’s about emotion, depth, and connection. It’s about making sure every detail is felt, from the warmth in your vocals to the punch of the drums, so that your song reaches people exactly the way you intended. A great mix doesn’t change your music—it elevates it, bringing out its full potential while keeping its soul intact.

Whether you’re fine-tuning a single or shaping a full project, my goal is to give your music the polish, professionalism, and impact it deserves. Let’s work together to make something that lasts—something that truly moves people.

I want you to be completely happy with your sound, so there’s no limit on revisions—just be reasonable, and we’ll make sure your music is everything you envisioned.

Interview with Marty J. Brown

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: As cliche as it sounds, I'm proud of all my projects. My role is usually Production/Songwriting/Vocal Production 9 out of 10 times.

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: Currently working on a 2000's style R&B record. Love how it's coming along.

  5. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  6. A: Gabby Neeley, Mickey Shiloh.

  7. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  8. A: Digital. I never grew up with analog, and my start in music was 100% in the box. I do like toys and given time I'm sure I'll collect a few pieces along the way, but it's not a necessity.

  9. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  10. A: I'm very laid back and inviting. However, my number one goal is to help my clients bring their visions to life. I take your vision very seriously and will do everything in my power to see it achieved. I'm cool, I'm funny, I'm your best friend, but I focus up when it's time to get to work. Again, I'm here to help you succeed and that's what I'm going to do.

  11. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  12. A: I love being a part of the creation process. I love helping clients fulfill their creative goals and seeing their visions come to life in front of them.

  13. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  14. A: Q: What are your rates? A: It depends on the scope of the project. But the range is between X and X dollars.

  15. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  16. A: That I just make beats.

  17. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  18. A: I love to ask questions like "Why are you making music?" "What do you want from music?" and "Who are you?"

  19. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  20. A: Hire who you feel would give you the best overall experience. Find someone who checks most if not all your boxes and try to get a feel for who they are. Some people have great credits but won't offer the best experience for you. Go with your gut and be open-minded.

  21. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  22. A: Hmmm... I'll take my iPhone, my Macbook Pro, my Audio Technica headphones, my hard drive, and an APC Battery Backup. LoL

  23. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  24. A: I initially began my career as an artist but slowly find out that I never enjoyed the spotlight. I was much more interested in how the beats were made and recording and manipulating sound. That was about 13 years ago now. I've been producing and songwriting seriously now for about 10 years.

  25. Q: How would you describe your style?

  26. A: Musical Chameleon. My go-to style is very R&B. However, I also feel pretty comfortable in Pop these days too.

  27. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  28. A: Arianna Grande, I've always been a fan of Arianna since her acting days on the hit tv show Victorious. I would also love to work with Kehlani, The Weeknd, and H.E.R.

  29. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  30. A: Yes, study the music that got you into music. Study the greats and your current favorites. Reverse engineer their music and you'll unlock the reason behind their success.

  31. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  32. A: R&B/Pop

  33. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  34. A: My strongest skill is communication and relations. I use this to guide my production and songwriting.

  35. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  36. A: I'm very laid back and inviting. My number one goal is to provide excellent service to my clients and help bring their visions to life. I bring 10 years of music production and songwriting experience. I have a good ear and depending on the artist's goals I can usually direct a path to get there.

  37. Q: What's your typical work process?

  38. A: Typically I schedule a zoom strategy session with clients to gain an understanding of what they are trying to achieve. This is scheduled soon after the first payment or full payment. Once we discuss the goal of the project, depending on what service is being provided I then begin working on a skeletal version of the project with the artist or I begin working on the first draft within 24 hours. Once the first draft is done I will then have a second zoom call with the artists to discuss any possible changes. After this, I will then finish up the project and prepare for export. After receiving the last payment I will send the stems for the project (or project file) to the client.

  39. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  40. A: I work from a home studio. This studio is filled with industry-standard equipment. The essentials include a Slate Digital ML-1 microphone, Apollo Twin audio interface, Yamaha HS Series monitors, and a MacBook Pro.

  41. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  42. A: Hitmaka, Tommy Brown, Timbaland, Ayo, Cardiak Flatline

  43. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  44. A: Music Production, Songwriting, Vocal Production.
