Interview with Pablo Gorostiaga

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: Recently, I recorded an album using just a single microphone in a beautiful countryside house. What stood out the most to me was the tranquility of the process and the complete disconnection from the distractions of the modern world, which allowed the music to flow naturally.

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: I’m currently working on several mixing projects across different genres, always pushing to refine my sound and workflow.

  5. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  6. A: I respect many professionals on the platform, but I always focus on delivering the best service myself and collaborating when needed.

  7. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  8. A: Hybrid. I like to combine the best of both worlds. Digital gives me precision, flexibility, and efficiency—especially when it comes to editing, recall, and working fast. Analog, on the other hand, brings warmth, depth, and subtle character that can add a more organic feel to the sound. By working in a hybrid setup, I can stay efficient while still adding that extra musicality and dimension when the track calls for it.

  9. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  10. A: I promise to treat every project with care, attention to detail, and respect for your artistic vision.

  11. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  12. A: Helping artists bring their vision to life and hearing how a track transforms from raw to finished.

  13. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  14. A: “How long will it take?” and “Can you make it sound like this reference?” My answer: turnaround depends on the project, but I always aim for quality first—and yes, I can get close to references while keeping your unique identity.

  15. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  16. A: That mixing is just making things louder. In reality, it’s about shaping the sound, creating space, and enhancing the emotion of the track.

  17. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  18. A: I usually ask about their references, the emotion they want to convey, their target audience, and any specific details or expectations for the mix.

  19. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  20. A: Be clear about your vision and provide references. Good communication is key to getting the best results.

  21. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  22. A: Tape Recorder - A loop station - Mixer - Speakers - Guitar

  23. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  24. A: I'm a Producer, Mix Engineer, Recording Technician and Multi-Instrumentalist born in Misiones, Argentina, and developed the majority of my carreer as a musician and producer in Buenos Aires’ underground scene. I' ve completed my studies at EMBA (Escuela de Música de Buenos Aires) and the London Academy of Music Production and had performed in festivals across Latin America, Europe and the United Kingdom. As a member of the neo-psychedelic group “Hurricane Heart Attacks”, I've shared the stage with bands like The Brian Jonestown Massacre, The Dandy Warhols, The Black Angels, Holy Wave, Träd Gräs Och Stenar, A place to bury strangers, The Telescopes and others. All of these places and experiences are present in the textures and layers of my hybrid mixes, which combine the warmth of the analog world with the facilities of digital tools.

  25. Q: How would you describe your style?

  26. A: Original with depth, textures and emotion.

  27. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

Through thoughtful processing and creative decisions, I work on adding depth, dynamics, and clarity, ensuring that every element sits perfectly within the mix while still retaining its character. Throughout the process, I am always considering the best possible way to present your music to the world—making sure it sounds polished, engaging, and true to your artistic identity across all listening environments.
