Interview with Daym

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: Skin Deep by TeZATalks is a recent song I'm proud of. I produced, played the instruments and wrote some of the melodies.

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: An album, three music videos, and help in producing an album for TeZATalks

  5. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  6. A: Probably! I'll do some research

  7. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  8. A: Digital for convenience, but analog if you have the hardware

  9. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  10. A: We'll make something that you cherish.

  11. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  12. A: I love creating something out of nothing! A shared vision is all I need.

  13. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  14. A: Q: How do you pronounce "Daym" A: Like "name" with a D Q: How fast can you get this project done? A: Every deadline is different! Let's coordinate Q: Can you write lyrics on a specific topic? A: Yes, but not always! I like to write from personal experiences (of which there's many lmaoo)

  15. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  16. A: I don't have a backlog of a ton of lyrical material written. Every song relies on creative spontaneity and every tune is a bit different!

  17. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  18. A: What have you been listening to lately? What do you hope to accomplish with this project? What movies or visuals can inform our sound together?

  19. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  20. A: Let's make it your own thing. I love emulating other artists, but no matter how our process evolves when working together I promise to make something truly unique.

  21. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  22. A: An emergency satellite phone, lighter, hatchet, 100 yards of rope, and a bottle of tequila so I could gtfo off of the desert island

  23. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  24. A: I have been performing in bands from festivals, small tours, with session work for the past 10 years, but started my own project Daym in 2017. That's when it got more interesting.

  25. Q: How would you describe your style?

  26. A: RL Stine's fever dream

  27. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  28. A: Sub Urban or Nova Twins, because those artists seem like fun

  29. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  30. A: Give it space

  31. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  32. A: I have done a lot of feature work and top-lining for EDM, but I typically work on dark, alternative pop.

  33. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  34. A: Vocals

  35. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  36. A: I bring an element of grunge to pop.

  37. Q: What's your typical work process?

  38. A: Pulling from source material is fun! I like to create a palette with clients from their various interests then distill those songs, sound design, and inspiration into basic melodies. Once the root melodies are established the song usually gets a life of its own.

  39. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  40. A: Apollo Twin, Macbook Pro, Logic Pro X, AKG C214, AKAI Midi Controller, Guitars, Bass

  41. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  42. A: I'm a huge fan of Prince, Nine Inch Nails, and Sub Urban to name a few!

  43. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  44. A: Vocal feature, songwriting, and guitar
