I'll make your music drip with character, emotion and impact.
Hey everyone, I'm Julian; an electronic music producer, DJ and recording artist from Vancouver, BC. My unique style is influenced by jazz, psychedelic rock and EDM, disco and old school hip-hop. If you're looking for electronic, dance, hip-hop, or R&B, I can provide you with a unique sound you won't find anywhere else.
My background comes from 10 years of playing and performing jazz music, both as an amateur and a professional. I've taken what I've learned from the jazz world and focused on electronic music production, working with local musicians, dancers and visual artists over the last 5 years.
I specialize in house music, including deep, tech, minimal and progressive. I also produce half-time trap and boom-bap and midtempo hip-hop, funk and ambient-focused music. I do custom sampling in all my mixes and can sample across a wide range of instruments in any of these genres.
I can master tracks and will do my best to make your mixes sound professional, authentic and completely original.
I can work with a variety of budgets and no matter the price, will provide you with the very best work I can do with my time. I'm open to working with producers, singers, composers and very beginners looking for some guidance.
Let me know what you want to accomplish and we can work together to achieve it. Looking forward to working with you.

Interview with Julian Telfer-Wan
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: I love being creative. I'm an artist at heart.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: I am not a DJ! Although I do sometimes get on decks, most of my day consists of writing and composition, beat making and mixing.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: What audience are you trying to appeal to? Send me some examples of songs you want your project to sound like.
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: There are a lot of great producers and engineers out there, so hire someone who will complement your style and specializes in the things you need.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I used to be a salesman for an industrial supply company, but I decided the cookie cutter life wasn't for me. I've been making music ever since I was a kid, but have been producing for about 5 years now. Choosing music was the best decision I've ever made.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: My style is cool and calm, groovy and funky, goes hard when it needs to and gets you in the feels at the right moments.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: I would love to work with Sami Diament because of his amazing production style. He has such a cool sound that is both hard and soft, experimental, fluid and recognizable. Almost every one of his songs is a banger.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Trust your ears! Go with what you think sounds good and don't settle for less.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: I usually work on pop and electronic music, specifically house and midtempo.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: My strongest skill is my ear. I've always been able to pick out little details in music to fine tune them. Having a good ear also allows me to replicate things I hear quickly. So if you want your song to sound like something very specific, I can do that.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I bring 15 years of musical experience, professional audio engineering and music production training at SAE Institute and 5 years of production experience.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I use Ableton 11 and Pro Tools for producing and mixing, as well as Logic Pro X. I run an industry standard Yamaha HS8 monitoring system with a paired HS8S subwoofer. I also using Audio Technica MX50's and Sennheiser HD 200 Pro's as mixing headphones for listening diversity.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Steven Zhu, Abel Tesfaye, Sami Diament
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: Producing midi, writing chord progressions, mixing songs
