Songwriter/Topliner and Vocalist based in London. I've been honing my skill since I was six and I can tell you there is nothing more important in a song than the melody. If you get this right, you have a potential hit.
A great song idea can be any sound, noise or humming recorded into your phone, be it on a bus or in a fancy studio. The purpose is to get this idea into something that is catchy and can be sung from start to finish easily.
But most importantly the final song has to make people feel warm in their bellies. This is the result of a great mix of chord progression, notes and rhythm. This will make people want to listen to the song again and again and share it with others. This is what a real hit is.
I usually separate a top line from the lyrics. So unless you want me to write lyrics, the demo will have some placeholder lyrics to carry the top line.
