Stevie Flowers on SoundBetter

Looking to produce and mix and master (if needed) for artists who want to express themselves in their most authentic way.

At 27 years old, I have been producing since I was 17. Over these past 10 years, I have been growing my skills a music producer and a mixing engineer.

Within my first year of releasing production tracks online, I had produced songs that made it onto multiple Spotify editorial playlists such as ‘Fresh Finds: Best Indie of 2020’ and 'Lorem'.

Since then, I have gone on to release my own music, and I continue to sharpen my skills of musicianship, producing, and mixing.

I'm always looking forward to branch out and produce for more people and even learn from my clients' own perspectives, as well. I'm prepared to work on all kinds of music - anywhere from soft pop ballads to hard rock.

Check out my production credits and my own songs here:

Interview with Stevie Flowers

  1. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  2. A: I'm always working on new productions and my own songs.

  3. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  4. A: Izabel - Songwriter & Female Vocalist She's a great friend and undeniably talented.

  5. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  6. A: Both. The new digital world of music lets us have so much control, its incredible. But even with all those tools, people still want to hear the warm tone of analog gear.

  7. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  8. A: What do you listen to? Who helps inspires your sound? What kinds of songs do you want to make in the future? What other hobbies/talents do you have?

  9. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  10. A: Find someone you feel comfortable talking to and sharing new ideas with. I think making good music takes vulnerability and honesty. You should feel free to speak your mind to your creative partners.

  11. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  12. A: 1. Acoustic Guitar 2. Rhodes Electric Piano 3. Notebook (hopefully they let me take a pen too) 4. A Condenser Mic 5. My MacBook (I need a charger too...are there wall outlets on this island?)

  13. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  14. A: I took a music production class in high school and always thought that making beats was such a cool hobby. Then I started doing it myself, and I realized it's all I ever wanted to do. I started making music during my senior year of high school (2016) and never wanted to stop. At this point, I couldn't stop making music if I wanted to.

  15. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  16. A: I usually work on indie pop, hiphop, alternative rock, dance music - but with a wide range in music taste, I'm confident I can channel the vibe of any song/genre.

  17. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  18. A: Writing chord progressions and melodies. I find it easy to follow the feeling of a chord progression or a melody line.

  19. Q: What's your typical work process?

  20. A: It starts with an idea/reference track and then i begin to build around that. For example, maybe I really like a chord progression I wrote or an artist brings me a song they've been listening to a lot and then we make something inspired by that. 3-6 hours each day with 15-20 min. breaks every hour to let my ears reset.

  21. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  22. A: 1. Open-mindedness 2. A genuine care for the art/artists I work with 3. A drive to work on a song until it's undeniably good I always try to surprise us both and go beyond what you asked for.

  23. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  24. A: I am especially proud of my production credits on the song 'enjoy it while u can!' by wordsbyjuni. I sent the beat stems for that song to the indie Canadian artist, wordsbyjuni, while sitting in my university library. And a half year later, his song was on multiple Spotify editorial playlists and was put on "Best Indie of 2020" at the end of the year.

  25. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  26. A: I'll work on a project until you're happy with the final product.

  27. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  28. A: To make good music, you have to get out of your head. It's meditative.

  29. Q: How would you describe your style?

  30. A: Stevie Flowers

  31. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  32. A: I would be honored to work with Remi Wolf or Dominic Fike. Both of these artists can't help but be authentic. I admire that.

  33. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  34. A: Good music is feeling. If you aren't feeling it while you're creating, the listener wont feel it either.

  35. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  36. A: I use the latest version of Logic Pro X on my MacBook Pro. I have: - Scarlett 2i2 audio interface - Audio-Technica AT4040 condenser microphone - Godin Session HT Electric Guitar - Yamaha PSR-E343 Electric Keyboard (used as a midi controller) - Fender CD-100 Acoustic Guitar

  37. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  38. A: From adopting all of my dad's favorite music and playing the famous Guitar Hero games, I grew up listening to all of the popular rock bands from the 1960s to present day like: The Beatles, Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, Boston, U2, Van Halen, Nirvana, The Police & Red Hot Chili Peppers, etc. Then, as a stoner high-school kid, I connected so heavily to the discography of some modern greats like: Kid Cudi, Odd Future, Chance The Rapper, Wiz Khalifa, Kanye West, Kendrick Lamar & absolutely, Mac Miller. Nowadays, I love how the indie scene is so eclectic and all of the textures from some of the best modern pop music shines through on great acts like: Rex Orange County, Still Woozy, Dominic Fike, Remi Wolf, BROCKHAMPTON, Gus Dapperton & WILLOW

  39. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  40. A: Usually, artists send me projects that they've written over beats they find online, and I recreate a new beat under their vocals that better serves their artistry and the song idea as a whole.
