Interview with Rory Stevens

  1. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  2. A: I love giving artists confidence in their release and helping them get one step closer to where they want to go with their music

  3. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  4. A: Probably the biggest misconception would be that the artist doesn't have control once handing the track off for mixing and mastering. An engineer like myself wants to be in close contact with you, get your take on things, and craft a mix you're excited about and fits your style perfectly ๐Ÿ˜‰

  5. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  6. A: Make sure your production is ready for the mixing process: well edited, properly exported and logically labelled

  7. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  8. A: I ask what the big picture goal is so that I can not only mix their song, but do what I can to actually take them from where they are now to where they want to be

  9. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  10. A: I've been making music for over a decade and I've dedicated myself to Mixing and Mastering for over 4 years now. I spent 3 years studying Mixing and Mastering at the University of West London and I've been offering freelance Mixing/Mastering services ever since

  11. Q: How would you describe your style?

  12. A: My mixing style is very clean and warm sounding.

  13. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  14. A: All great human achievements were done as part of a team. Landing on the moon, creating photography, mastering flight, and music production is no exception. When you have a team of a great artist, a great producer and a great engineer where everyone's at the top of their game in their field, it's hard to go wrong ;)

  15. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  16. A: I usually work on R&B, Neo-Soul, Chill Hip-Hop tracks and Pop music.

  17. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  18. A: My strongest skill is paying attention to detail and fine tuning intricate details of a performance to bring the biggest emotional impact out possible

  19. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  20. A: I make a song 3-D. I maximise a song's Width, Depth and Height to make it sound larger than life and better than ever before ;)

  21. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  22. A: I commit to crafting a Mix and Master of an artist or producer's work that suits their unique personal style, brings a professional sheen to their music and brings all the emotion of the song out into the forefront
