Interview with JM Studios

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: The Marathon Continues. I produced this record and co-mixed. It was very impactful due to the death of Nipsey Hussle and it being his tribute song from his label.

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: My group JMNI(Gemini) its a duo group consisting of myself and Mark Pelli of Magic!(sings the song "Why You Gotta Be So Rude)

  5. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  6. A: Both. They both have there pros and cons. Analog of course gives you warm saturation that gives a character and tonality to a sound that digital doesn't. But the ease of work flow with digital and also digital artifacts can sometimes work in your benefit, and also digital processing gives you way more options as far as what you can do with a sound.

  7. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  8. A: You will receive a Multi-Platinum industry ready sound in all categories.

  9. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  10. A: I like that there's honestly no ceiling to how far you can go. And also I get to listen to music all day. I love music.

  12. A: What are you trying to accomplish. What are your goals for this project. And pick there brain more about the project.

  13. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  14. A: Laptop, Midi Controller, Microphone, UAD Apollo, Headphones

  15. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  16. A: I started writing poems that eventually turned into rap songs. When I got tired of looking for beats I started producing my own beats and landing my first gig when I was 15 on the Shaquille Oneal Def Comedy Jam producing all of the background music.

  17. Q: How would you describe your style?

  18. A: Experimental, Expensive, Clean, In your face, very clear but warm at the same time.

  19. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  20. A: Kanye West, because I'm him on steroids musically and were both Gemini.

  21. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  22. A: Yes, study great music so you develop your ear for quality sound.

  23. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  24. A: Pop, Hip hop, R&B

  25. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  26. A: My rhythm, and ear for sound designing

  28. A: Creation, anything that can bring the song to life
