Interview with Zach Johnson
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Mainly music in the genres of: trap, hip-hop, r&b, pop, acoustic, singer-songwriter, electronic.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: Creativity! Fundamentals are important while being a mixing engineer but there are creative methods outside the quote on quote "right way to use a particular plugin or EQ or Compressor." I always say mixing is like an instrument we may be able to all play one but we all play the instrument differently. Just as mixing engineers we will mix differently. It's our own so called 'signature' of what we can bring to the table thats unique to use and our passion.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: Before I started renovating and building my studio, I always found I would run to a coffee shop to do production work when I wanted to get away from being in the same space all the time. I wanted to take that feeling of the café and bring it into my studio. Go with a very simple white & grey colour palette a comfy modern sofa for clients to sit and a giant grey bean bag. Now I can take my coffee to my studio and feel the same vibe and atmosphere to me of the local coffee shop I would go to.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Derek Ali, Alfio Annibalini, Noah 40, Manny Marroquin, WondaGurl, Pierre Bourne, Blackbear, Wc No Beat, Diplo, Charlie Puth, Drake, Roy Woods, Houdini and many more.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: Recording, Mixing & Mastering Specifically Dealing With Genres In: Trap, Hip-Hop, R&B, Acoustic, Pop & Electronic
