Interview with Peng Zi
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Inject more vitality and aggression into the work, and be able to complete the tasks more quickly.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: Decide what factors to add based on the feel of the piece itself. Generally speaking, I would add more impact and aggression to the work, in simple terms, it's about having more of a "rock" feel.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: Before mixing, personally or with the help of an assistant, edit and trim the multi-track audio, then perform some vocal tuning, and then proceed with the narrow sense of the mixing process.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: Mac Pro, Quested Monitors + API Mixer, Genelec Monitors, Neve PreAmps, UA Compressors, Telefunken Mics, sE Mics, Neumann Monitors, and many equipmetnts
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: There are too many to name, a lot of post-punk and shoegaze bands and artists, as well as many artists with high artistic value.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: Recording/Mixing sessions
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: I am the recording/mixing engineer for our band's first album. The recording process took five months, followed by nearly four months of mixing. I am very satisfied with our work. The band incorporates elements of post-punk, shoegaze, dream pop, psychedelia, and noise rock, which is very artistic. Although our band is not well-known, I am extremely proud of this project
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: Mixing my band's live recording Translate MWTM's sessions to Chinese
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Both are FINE to me.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Adding a touch of reverb to the final 2-bus can sometimes achieve the cohesive effect of bus compression without the side effects of compression.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Mainly focusing on mixing for post-punk, shoegaze, dream pop, and indie rock, psychedelic rock, which aligns more closely with my aesthetic preferences, and I am more adept in my work.
