- Recovering from SXSW 2014Mar 17, 2014
I had a great time at SXSW this year and met back up with my old friend producer/engineer Mark Hallman and his wife for dinner. Mark is the owner of Congress house studio is a grammy nominee and has worked with the best from Ani Difranco to Carole King. I think I might head over there to complete my new album. His studio is a playground of vintage and latest tech.
I also had a speaking engagement, and booked a big show in Sept., and a meeting about hosting a podcast for a musician website .. so we will see what it yields.
When I showcased at SXSW while back, we ended up getting free tickets to the Daniel Lanois Concert and Private CD release with Chris Whitley, which was pretty amazing... I almost ran over him with my car after the concert. I've always done well at walking away with lots of opportunities and I attribute it to truly being interested in others, and not having any expectations. There are so many trying to be noticed, being the one actually listening can have a big impact. - Two Ezra songs make the semi-finals ISC 2014Mar 17, 2014
I had two songs place in the Semi-finals in this years International Songwriting competition. The first one, Take me with you has a funny story behind it. Lost all the drum tracks but one in a crash and decided to do something I've been wanting to do for quit some time. If your a Beatles fan, you'll notice all of their drums are panned to one side. I think they only had one song with true stereo drums, "the End." This was a remnant of the mono days. But I actually like it, and have though of a few ways to use this effect. You'll notice at the out the drums pan hard to the other side and creates the feeling of a major transition, though nothing in the production has changed. This song has gotten some good attention lately with it's placement on a episode of Skins.

The other track RTZ or Road to zion was also produced by me and as you can tell is quiet a different genre. I've received many comments that it sounds like U2 and dated, and just as many reviews that it is outside of any era. This one also won the Rock category in 2013 Vh1 song of the year.
