Interview with DeShane Shih
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: Starting up a record label in Taipei
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: Sean Spence from Blue Grotto Sound. The best there is.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Whatever on hand. But considering the LUFs war on streaming services. You'll out-master the tape(analog), and lose that magic eventually. Just a personal thought.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: Time duration, track counts... Same infos I provide to engineers when I hire them Other than that, reference track.
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: One of our member had a bad experience hiring his actual role model musician. Yet it turn out the "Pro" didn't bother to see the mixing note. I will leave the rest unsaid. Bottom line: Talk! Make sure both parties are 100% on board.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: Tuner, 4-track tape recorder, and the crew
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: Our first EP came out 2019. The actual album came out 2021. Yeah, pretty fresh and in trend!
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Indie rock / singer-songwriter. We got the arrangement skill to top anything in between.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: Lauv. Architects. They are so great at making hit in their fields.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: BPM setting sets everything to us.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: For songs already in demos, we can square it up nice and throw in vibey guitars, synths, and drum patterns.
