Endorse FantasmatikA brilliant and sensitive artist, Fantasmatik deeply connects himself with the work he produces and mixes. Always attentive to the details that define Afrobeat and Brazilian music, Fantastik colors everything with a lot of musical research and with his vast experience as a studio musician. Furthermore, Fantasmatik also proved to be a super kind, calm and insightful person, extremely creative and motivated in solving the issues that eventually appear. Highly recommended as a mixing producer!
Ingenious, attentive, deeply aware, welcoming and a highly qualified listener. Fantasmatik accumulates virtues that are extremely rare to be found gathered in one single person. Collaborating with him in anyway is, above all, a delightful pleasure one is privileged to experience. I can but joyfully and vehemently recommend his work!
My name is João Myrrha, I`m a professional musician for over 10 years now, and working with Fantasmatik was an awesome experience. He mixed the first album of my band called "mononokø" and did an amazing job!
He is extremely well organised and is very good with communication, both this qualities helped A LOT the process to evolve in a way that we reached a fantastic result!
Besides being a great audio engineer, he iso a great musician and music producer, and helped in a lot of ways to develop the songs.
I am very satisfied with his work and am looking forward to woking together again.Well, I have quite a few things to talk about my experience working with Fantasmatik, my name is Zion Love and I’ve been playing on bands since high school, and never had anything released solo, until we started. First thing I realized is that Fantasmatik is really into understanding the artistic idea and how to bring it forward even if it takes a lot of research. Amazing dedication to reach the sounds and bring to life compositions on any style and references, I was amazed by his speed on feedbacks and getting over those “boring” steps like editing... great beats, mixes, true producer!
Lindooooo. Adorei trabalhar com você! Que venham mais oportunidades!
It's always a pleasure when i get a mix from Fantasmatik! Besides being an amazing musician, the guy is an incredible audio engineer and music producer. He is very careful, even with minor details and everything coming from his studio always sounds full and rich! Hope we do lots of projects together soon! Cheers!
Just to conclude what I was saying in the review below: If I had to describe him, I would say that Fantasmatik is a live-instrumentation-oriented beatmaker, with a unique taste for vintage synths and analogic gear, and an open-minded producer with a wide practice-based musical knowledge. (sorry, I didn’t see it has a limit of characters)
Hi, I’m Braz Mitchell, drummer and composer from Belo Horizonte, Brazil. I have a long-term collaboration with Fantasmatik. He played keyboards in my rap/funk music project, Coletivo Dinamite. We also played together in a psychedelic-carnival-rock band called Alcova Libertina, where he played sax, flute and worked as arranger. More recently, Fantasmatik recorded, mixed and produced my first solo single: “Caminhada”. I've really appreciated working with him, he really loves what he’s doing, he always brings new references, sounds, and ideas to the table, and that improved the sound and musicali
My name is Abu, MC and beatmaker from Belo Horizonte-Brasil. My last project, a 7 songs alternative rap album called VÔ (2021), was mastered by Fantasmatik. He did a great work with the material, including some very good suggestions he made in order to improve the mixing (wich I did). He is also working with mixing and mastering some of the next work that will be released by my label Xifuta Records, and always bring a good perspective to the post-production with his experience as stage and recording musician. Also, he is a very easy going person in the work relationship. Highly recommend
My name is Chris Franck, I am a producer and musician from London. My projects include Da Lata, Smoke City, The Quiet Ones and Zeep among others. I also run a record label called DLM. I have had the pleasure of working with Fantasmatik on a recent project with Luiz Gabriel Lopes and I have been a fan of his productions for many years. An inspiring musician who is always looking to create new and innovative soundscapes with his productions. Blending electronic and acoustic elements with great sensitivity and care. He is deeply connected to music and an absolute joy to work with.
What to say about Fantasmatik?
For starters, he's behind some of the greatest and most acclaimed artists who thrive in the contemporary Belo Horizonte musica scene, in Brazil.
Working within many different genres and styles, Fantasmatik uses his years of expertise (both as a musician and a producer) to creatively bring out the best in artists and their projects.
Flexible, empathetic, resourceful and extremely commited, Fantasmatik is an exceptional professional who's capable of working on any type of project; regardless of size or difficulty.
Highly recommended!!!i know Henrique (aka FANTASMATIK) since he was a smashing saxophonist at awesome tropical-punk band Fusile, around 2010 in effervescent belo-horizonte indie scene. by this time, he made part as a very original arranger and multi-instrumentist in a couple of bands i was leading. then he went more deep in studio production works and it's been very inspiring to observe how he brings all his rich musical baggage into his studio creativity - so he's not just a guy with a great technical approach, but a very high level musician. recently he did an amazing remix for a song of mine. i truly recommend!
Hi, i am Materia Prima, a rapper/singer from Belo Horizonte, Brazil. Last year, my album VISÃO was mixed, mastered and had post production by Fantasmatik, and he made it sound incredible. Everyone that listened to the album was amazed by sound quality. Since then, he is the one to put the final touches on everytihng i do. Fantasmatik delivers!!
Interview with Fantasmatik
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: "Rap de Massagem", the debut album from brazilian Hip Hop duo "Hot e Oreia". My main role was record producer and musical director. But I also made the instrumentals for two tracks, recorded many of the vocals and actively participated in mixing the album. It was a resounding success with both critics and the public, reaching tens of millions of views and great acclaim. I am specially proud of it because it was a great thing for their career, and I know my work has contributed to that outcome.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: At the moment I am mixing three albums, from "Matéria Prima, F.E.S. and Raphael Sales; producing José Luis Bragas' next album, two new singles for Zion Love and teaching music production online.
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: Not that I'm aware of, so far.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Both! Each has its strengths, and we should always use the best tool for each job, no matter if its volts or bits!
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: Hmm... I guess my laptop, my bass station 2,
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I started as saxophonist thirteen years ago, in an electro-house duo and a ska band. Since then I have played in many great acts, toured extensively in Brazil, and also Argentina, Mexico, and all around Europe, including a concert in Roskilde Festival, in Denmark. My two main acts in this time, are bands Iconili and Graveola. During my career as a musician I began taking interest in audio, being the "nerd" that I am, and after arranging playing and recording all kinds of genres and styles for many years, being a producer came to me as a natural path. I have and have been producing and mixing professionally for the last three, and since the end of 2019 I have worked excusively in the studio.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Very eclectic and guided by groove.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: Koffee. I'm simply mesmerized by her rhythmic vocals and wonderful choruses.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Seek that goosebump! Music is emotional, always look for results that convey emotion to the listeners. Also don't do any unecessary processing, use your ears!
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: I nowadays I usually work with reggae, nu-reggae and hip-hop. But I have also an extensive background in afrobeat, instrumental music and brazilian popular music (MPB)
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Listening
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I bring a deep knowledge of different rhythms, especially brazilian and latin-american, careful, taylor-made sound design and interesting arrangements that catch the ear and help bring a song to its full expressive potential. No preset-laden, generic sounds in my produtcions.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: Typically the artist send me a guidetrack of the song, and after careful briefing, understanding the artist, their objectives and references, I start arranging and recording the elements to the production. I love feedback and challenges, so I welcome the artist to pitch in so we can build a production that can really contribute to their career and reflect their vision, with a pinch of my own. After we agree that the production is done, usually I'll ask for a definitive take of vocals and, if I'm in charge of mixing, we move to that phase, where a new round of feedbacks happens, and when we are done, it's off to mastering!
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: My studio is currently a heavily treated room in a beautiful penthouse in Belo Horizonte, Brazil, where I live. I use RME UFX or Steinberg ur816c conversion, Yamahas hs8 + sub (with sonarworks calibration for final room tweaks), two mono cheap small speakers, and my trusted Sennheiser HD650s (individually calibrated by sonarworks). Between knowing my room very well and having all these different monitoring possibilities I can assure a great translatability of my mixes. On the input side of things, I have a nice and very eccletic collection of vintage and modern synths and drum machines comprised of: Moog Slim Phatty; Novation Bass Station 2, Deepmind 12, Yamaha DX7s, Digitone 44rt and Gambitt (brazilian vintage combo organs), Giannini kps61 (vintage brazilian electronic piano), Korg ESX-1 and Elektron Analog Rytm. I also have a Squier Vintage Modified Jaguar Bass Special HB with heay La Bella Flats for that deep groove, and a Tagima Strato with fender noiseless pickups. I play all these instruments in my productions, with the addition of Arturia V Collection 7 for extra tools when I think its needed.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Those are many! Erykah Badu, Hermeto Pascoal, Rogério Duprat, Edu Lobo, Gal Costa, Dua Lipa, Sérgio Pererê, Protoje, Koffee, Fela Kuti, Mick Guzauski, Andrew Scheps, Marina Sena, Hugh Masekela, Kanye West, The Kingstonians, Run the Jewels, Bjork and many many more!
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I usually work with singers/songwriters who need a full production of their songs, or with mixing!
