Cristian R. Villagra on SoundBetter

I'm a chilean musician and my main instrument is the piano/keyboard. I've been producing and composing music since the 90's, and I love to explore different music genres, but my love is in the orchestral/electronic music. These last 4 years, I've been doing song recreations as instrumentals for YouTube artists/singers.

I can record the piano for your song, or every instrument (as virtual) you need for your song. Synths, Drum Programming, Orchestral Instruments, and more.

I specialize on doing instrumental recreations in many different genres like Pop, Classical, Rock, Symphonic, Electro-Pop, Hip Hop, and more. What I've been doing a lot is recreations of Anime Openings for YouTubers.

Send me an email through 'Contact' button above and I'll get back to you asap.

Interview with Cristian R. Villagra

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: I'm always proud of the tracks I orchestrated for Whitney Avalon. My role is always to orchestrate some known song in a different style.

  4. A: Song productions for different artists around the globe. Japan, USA, UK, France, and more.

  5. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  6. A: No

  7. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  10. A: Quality and Creativity.

  11. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  12. A: That every time is something different, and I can show my progress fast.

  13. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  14. A: How many days may take to do the project. And my response is always about how complex is the project, and how fast is the client feedback.

  15. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  16. A: That I'm a ghost producer who doesn't want the credits for his work.

  17. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  18. A: If the customer need me to create something, I ask for references. And I like to know who will sing the song, to focus my work on the final result.

  20. A: To know very well what is looking for, and to listen what the provider can give beside the customer need.

  21. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  22. A: I started as musician, then computer engineer, and then back to music. I've been playing, creating and producing music since my 15 yo. And professionally since my 20's. So, more than 25 years now.

  23. Q: How would you describe your style?

  24. A: Open.

  25. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  26. A: Jonny Greenwood, because he has no boundaries.

  27. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  28. A: Try to visualize the whole song, and try to listen what says your heart the song needs, and not what the trend is saying.

  29. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  30. A: Anime Openings, that is a lot of styles like Rock, Progressive Rock, some Pop, a lot of electronic elements, and Orchestral/Classical music.

  31. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  32. A: I can listen very deep, and when recreating a song I go in a kind of mind journey listening to every element.

  33. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  34. A: When I have the opportunity to create ideas for a song, I try to put all my heart on having a unique melodies and textures of sounds, so the song get its own personality.

  36. A: When recreating or orchestrating, I start by creating the tempo track, then I set a spreed sheet to help me with the timing for recording every element for a song.

  37. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  38. A: I have a very simple setup. My main piano controller is a Komplete Control S88 MkII by Native Instrument. And my main DAW is Pro Tools Studio, and I produce and mix with plugins by Slate Digital, Plugin Alliance, Waves, Universal Audio, Native Instruments and more.
