    Highly recommended!

Zin is very experienced and genre-wise he covers a lot of ground - from K-Pop, singer songwriter, world music all the way to hard rock. A great match for my songs, that comprise differing styles.

While the communication went smooth and in a friendly manner Zin offered me an honest evaluation towards my halfway-completed songs, leading to an optimized final product. He ensured that I was entirely happy with his work, while the revision turnaround was extremely quick!

I've been working with Zin for close to a decade now, and Zin has never failed to amaze me with how he understands clients' needs, and with how he communicates with his clients. A versatile arranger across all genres, especially ballads, Zin is definitely your go to person when it comes to music productions.

I have worked with Zin for years, both performing together on stage and producing music in the studio. I can personally attest to his incredible musical intuition.

Zin is a talented composer with a knack for creating strong melody lines and capturing the right vibes and grooves. Beyond his production skills in Pop, Rock, and Electronic genres, he is a phenomenal live performer with great guitar skills and impressive high-pitch rocker vocals.

Zin has top-class work ethic. He is always on time (often early), whether showing up for gigs or delivering on music arrangement deadlines.

Me and Zin shared a special relationship, he is my mentor, a good friend and also a great collaborator. I work as a video creator, me and Zin have collaborated in several video projects for Malaysia's streaming platforms, I did the visual and he makes the sound. And he never failed to surprise me with his new elements of sound and mood. He is also a great listener, very smooth to work with, and most importantly always passionate.

Interview with Zin C.

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: I’m especially proud of working on the short film 'My Style Is…', directed by Matt Vega. I was the music producer and composer, creating a soundtrack that spans multiple genres — from vintage ’50s and classical to electronic, rock, ambient, waltz, and experimental. It was exciting to shape the film’s emotions across such diverse styles and really push my creative limits.

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: Currently I’m producing songs for Hong Kong and China artists, while also exploring my own experimental ambient music, blending digital and analog gear to push sonic boundaries.

  5. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  6. A: No, I don't know anyone on Soundbetter.

  7. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  8. A: Analog or digital? It really depends on the project. Analog has that raw, warm character I love — but digital gives me much broader boundaries to experiment and push ideas further. I’m not tied to one — I use whatever makes the music hit hardest.

  9. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  10. A: Most customers ask about the time required and the price. My answer is that it really depends on the complexity of the project. That’s why it’s best to be open about the vision and expectations, the clearer the idea, the more accurate the timeline and cost will be.

  11. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  12. A: Many people think my job is just me working alone, but so much of it is actually about communication and collaboration to really understand someone’s vision.

  13. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  14. A: I usually ask clients who their inspirations are, what their vision is, and what they want to achieve with the project. This helps me understand their style, goals, and expectations so we can create something that really fits them.

  15. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  16. A: I’d recommend being completely open about your ideas and vision from the start. The more honestly we can talk about what you want, the better I can understand it and create something that truly matches your expectations.

  17. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  18. A: I’d really love to work with Damon Albarn. His music has had such a big impact on me, and I’m inspired by how he constantly experiments and evolves. I feel like creating something with him would be truly meaningful and unforgettable.

  19. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  20. A: Listen to your heart.

  21. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  22. A: To witness a whole process from a rough idea to a full completion in music, being creative and always with new creations.

  23. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  24. A: I’m a songwriter at Warner Chappell Music for more than 15 years till now, previously worked as Music Producer in a music production house in Shanghai, China. Due to career transition, me and my wife have moved to Berlin for good. I have been very enthusiastic about music since I was a kid, this brought me to self-taught to play some instruments and to learn music production, formed a rock band in high school and in the end worked in the music industry for many years.

  25. Q: How would you describe your style?

  26. A: I would say my style was changing from time to time, depending on what music inspire me at that moment. For personal taste, I like something creative and listen experience with surprises.

  27. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  28. A: Don't limit yourself.

  29. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  30. A: Truly listening.

  31. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  32. A: I will bring your vision and story into reality, with my most objective opinions and wholeheartedly creativity.

  33. Q: What's your typical work process?

  34. A: Every song is unique, therefore producing a song is a very specific task. First is to have a deeper conversation about the ideas regarding the song or track beforehand, and to have the best understanding according to the needs. If you already have a simple vocal track or sheet music of your melody, then my service is to produce and arrange, to provide the right instruments with professional standards to your song. The music arrangement could be by live instrument recorded in a professional studio and computer sound samples depend on necessity. It is always welcome if you have any references or ideas, best communication is the key, negotiation is always possible.

  35. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  36. A: I do music production for major record labels such as Warner Chappell, Universal Music, Sony Music, as well as indie artists. To produce a song from scratch to completion is just like a paint to painter or novel to novelist, give me a rough idea, and I will tell a full story through the music.

  37. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  38. A: Acoustic guitar, that's all I need.

  39. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  40. A: Rock, Alternative, Indie, Pop, Brit Pop, C-Pop, Ballad, Electronic, Folk.

  41. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
