Interview with Caleb Wiseman
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: I'm actually working on my own record today, but tomorrow, I am working on grunge record. I'm really excited about it.
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Definitely make sure that the person you hire has good communication skills. While working an a important project, you wanna make sure that the person you hire has great way of communicating and getting your feedback. You need to work together to make sure that you are happy with the resulting product.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: I would bring my MacBook, Audio Interface, Keyboard, Guitar, and Drum Set. I think that we put to much emphasis on audio gear, and not enough emphasis on the music. The music has to be the center of every production, mix, and even the master.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: A lot of what I work on sorta lands in the Alt Pop/Rock genre, but I've really worked on everything. One of my favorite records that I've done was a country record. It's fun to bring new ideas to different genres.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: Easy. Bon Iver. Justin Vernon is a genius. He hasn't ever made anything that conforms to the rules that we seem stuck in, as artists. He knows how to think and create out of the box. I can't imagine that I would walk out of a session with him and not have an entirely different and better mindset.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: I am incredibly inspired by Ryan Tedder (OneRepublic). He is an incredible writer, producer, and singer. He brings out all of the best in the artists that he works with. He is always making unique music. I am also inspired by Brendon Urie (Panic! at the Disco). Each record that he has produced has a new and exciting sound. I also think that he is the best singer on radio, right now.
