Interview with Rebecca Pearl

  1. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  2. A: My album.

  3. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  4. A: To my clients, I promise honesty, transparency, and fun in the process.

  5. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  6. A: Positivity and kindness go a long way.

  7. Q: How would you describe your style?

  8. A: I have a very soulful, heartfelt, and intimate style, but I also possess the ability to pivot into whatever feels right.

  9. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  10. A: James Blake. His penmanship, style of production, authenticity to himself and ethereal nature inspire and motivate me to be true to myself, and let whatever I create take whatever beautiful form it would like.

  11. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  12. A: Keep in mind the world/atmosphere you create with the song.

  13. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  14. A: Pop, R&B, Gospel, Hip-Hop, Neo-Soul, EDM, Alternative & Soundtrack.

  15. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  16. A: Vocals and lyrics.

  17. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  18. A: I bring raw emotion, the presence and heart to it, and the ability to excecute vision. From a technical aspect: I bring vocals, lyrics, arrangements, composition, and melodies.

  19. Q: What's your typical work process?

  20. A: I like to start with the feeling/vision of the song. I ask questions like: What is the world we're looking to create here? Where do we want to take our listener? How do I want them to feel, what do I want them to see, taste, smell, etc? From these questions, I get a full view of the vision and then move in that direction to ensure all pieces fit cohesively into the overall vision.

  21. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  22. A: I carry with me an AT4040, Scarlet 2i2, and an Alesis VI61, but have access to whatever is needed for a project.

  23. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  24. A: James Blake: His production, lyrics, and the realm he creates in his music touches my soul in such a way that he truly inspires me. FKJ: Another fantastic producer and writer, he creates such beautiful aesthetics through his compositions and piano performances. Jazmine Sullivan, Kelly Clarkson, and Carrie Underwood are great vocalists that have inspired me. Alicia Keys, Ms. Lauryn Hill, and H.E.R. are incredible writers and vocalists.

  25. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  26. A: I love to assist my clients in whatever stage they're in with their projects. Whether they're just getting started and are looking to see which direction they'd like to go, from writing the lyrics, to production, arrangement, and composition, to deciding the marketing direction, my goal is to serve as best I can.
