Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: I've worked on so many projects and I'm proud of them all at the moment I'm working on Goldies new record and because he gives me such freedom to express exactly what I want it's always a joy
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: At the moment I am working on my version of mike oldfield Tubular Bells
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: I have a good friend and somebody I have my incredibly and his name is Jay Stapley fantastic guitarist
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Each platform has its benefits and different qualities I'm happy with both
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: But they will get the very best from me and the most beautiful music that they can have
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: I just love music I love everything about it and I love the joy that it gives
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: I would say the biggest misconception about what I do is there anybody thinks we get paid a lot of money for doing it
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: I have no questions it's all about the music and it's all about what the client wants
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Just know that it's pure quality you will get and I will try and try again to make sure that the producer or the client gets exactly what they want
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: A piano piano piano piano and acoustic guitar
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I studied classical composition of the Royal College of music London and having joined the National youth Jazz Orchestra in the UK I have had a long-term career as a session musician all over the world
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: My style is incredibly musical I'm very influenced by French classical and jazz musicians their ability to create beautiful harmonies without getting too clever
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: I'd love to work with John Mayer I think he's an amazing guitarist and it is so incredibly Musical as well as Pat Matheny who I think with the late great Lyle Mays created such amazing textures and quality
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: My production tip would be definitely to understand how the finished article needs to sound and not just throw loads of information to try and get the right result
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: That depends on the producer and it depends on the requirement I've done everything from classical crossover to jungle and everything in between
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: My versatility I was trained classically but have always played jazz blues and have a passion for funk and soul
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: A sense of structure a sense of arrangement and finished quality for not much price
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: Listening to whatever I've been given and also listening to the instructions really getting into the melodic and harmonic essence of the music and then sit back and try different elements my strength is the fact that I can give many many different angles on the same piece
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: Are use Logic Pro with Mac as well as my Roland and weighted keyboards and my Yamaha SE series acoustic piano which because it also has digital out puts allows me to do authentic piano performances and then send as digital files or even as midi files.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: I love some of the new hip-hop producer is because they are really experimenting with synth sounds and also the influence of jazz. For example Jarrod Lawson is amazing he delves into the old school but yet there is a newness and freshness.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: Most commonly creating new atmospheres new harmonies helping with melodies and overall arranging.
