Interview with CLA

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: The song I produced for Vlaskamp, a Belgian glamping concept. They asked me to produce the theme song. It was my first bigger production and I had to produce a song in 3 days in a genre I never produced before. I produced several edits of famous songs in another genre, as indicated by the DJ. He used it to drop it on TikTok.

  3. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  4. A: I will make sure that your vision and the musical vision meet. We can have as much revisions you want, to make sure the end product is what you imagined.

  5. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  6. A: A heart. I always wanna make sure that the song has to tell something. So when you listen you feel what the writer feels. It's all about emotion.

  7. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  8. A: I'm currently working on original songs, going from EDM to pop to synthwave and back.

  9. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  10. A: Digital because I think it's the new way of music production. But sometimes it's really nice to combine the two.

  11. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  12. A: Being able to do what I love the most and meeting new and inspiring people.

  13. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  14. A: What style are you looking for? Do you have a reference song or artist? What's the goal of the song?

  15. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  16. A: Do not always go for the one who can deliver the fastest. We're dealing with a creative process, sometimes it's better to take a bit of distance from the productions to get new insights and make the best out of it.

  17. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  18. A: Pc, pair of speakers, keyboard, audio interface, and mic.

  19. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  20. A: I started out djing when I was 10 years. When I turned 16, I got my first DAW and started making my own productions. 4 years later I had my first small job in making music for others and now I wanna make a business out of it.

  21. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  22. A: Creating melodies.

  23. Q: How would you describe your style?

  24. A: Positive, I try to give every song a positive note. Although it's a sad song, I always try to give it a positive message, a message of hope.

  25. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  26. A: volume is a magical thing.

  27. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  28. A: I most of all work on electronic and pop productions.

  29. Q: What's your typical work process?

  30. A: Most of the time I start with chords, a melody, or a topline idea. I rarely start with drums or percussion elements. Afterward, I go further until the first chorus. I wanna make sure that everything is good until that point before going further in production.

  31. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  32. A: I recently build my own studio, fully with the wright acoustic treatment. I work on a pair of Adam T7V speakers as well as an Adam T10S Subwoofer. I've made a special computer for audio production. I use various plugins as there are Sylenth1, Nexus2, Ana2, Different Kontakt plugins, Spire, etc... The keyboard I use is a Komplete Kontrol S61 MK2. For recordings, I work with a sure SM7B and a Focusrite audio interface.

  33. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  34. A: Martin Garrix, Oak Felder, Charlie Puth, Lauv, Mike Williams, and many more.

  35. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  36. A: I do every kind of music production. From the beginning to the end so the track is release-ready. It's a variation of ghost productions, productions for singer/ songwriters, and marketing goals such as soundtracks for promo videos, events, ...
