Tarra is great singer, she'll puts soul in your song.
Thanks Tarra ! - check_circleVerified
Tarra has a wonderful and very unique vocal sound. I chose her specifically because I was sure that she would be able to pull of what I needed. I know she had to move out her normal genres a bit to help me out but she nailed it! She is a very talented vocal writer. It was a pleasure to work with her and I look forward to seeing what else she will be able to contribute in my music.

Tarra's powerhouse voice is the perfect combination of grit, pop, with tons character that is ideal for the modern audience craving a sound that is more personal and decidedly un-generic. More importantly, she captures the soul of the song in ways not every great singer can. We were looking for someone who can really take hold of the melody, but also come back with melodic ideas that take the song to new—and better—places. Tarra works extremely hard and was amazing to work with! HIRE HER!

Tarra sang a beautiful, powerful vocal for my song. She is extremely talented & patient w/ me when I needed a couple of parts revised. I’m very happy with how the project turned out!

A vocal powerhouse. Dynamite singer - with an emotional range from demur to sultry to rip-your-head-off rock & blues. Every time we've worked together she goes overboard to deliver the lifesaver for your project. Just a rare talent indeed.

All I can say is, what a bad, bad girl! Tons of attitude and power. I'm just blown away. Very pleasant and fair to work with. She's a wonderful artist and she took my song to another level. Thank you, Tarra.

I've been an advertising creative director for 30 years. It's rare to find an artist with incredible talent plus an incredible "can do" attitude. Tara is such a talent. She'll go the extra mile to make sure your project is pitch perfect. I'm glad I found her. She may add another 30 years to my career.

What a voice. What a talent. What a "can do" attitude. This is the first project I've worked on with Tarra, and I couldn't be more pleased and impressed. Understands music's role in marketing - and makes a simple pedantic jingle magical. She's made a client of of me. You'll love her.

I've been spoiled getting to work with Tarra. She's everything you want in a session vocalist: professional, easy going, on time and ridiculously talented! Her communication is superb and she goes the extra mile to ensure you are satisfied with the final product. She's definitely someone I hope to work with again.

She goes all the wY to make your song shine
I loved working with Tarra! I thought I only needed her for one song but when I heard what she could do and how much of an amazing writer she was I wound up having her sing and co-write on ever song on my record. I’ll no doubt i’ll have her sing on everything I do from now on.
I've had the good fortune of working with Tarra on a handful of recording projects, including her three-song EP and video bundle, "The Yellow Couch Sessions." Her vocal skills are obvious and outstanding, but just as impressive is her work ethic and attitude in the studio. She's a total pro and makes every project that she touches better. - Steven Foxbury, Yellow Couch Studio
Tarra Layne is a powerhouse vocalist. Yet with as much soul and power as this fabulous vocalist can bring to a performance/recording, she can caress the subtle nuances of a song as sweetly as a butterfly's whisper. Tarra always comes to the studio with a positive attitude and takes excellent direction. Tarra Layne is simply ... an absolute pleasure to work with.
Interview with Tarra Layne
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Ey, this is loaded. I'd love to do a truly, fully analog record one day, start to finish. I believe that's true art - when you get in there, do the thing, and unleash it to the world.
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Collaboration is a beautiful thing. Enjoy the ride.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: A hoodie, my Timberlands, a bandana (I don't go anywhere without my bandana), coffee beans (to plant coffee), and a french press. I don't think these qualify as gear, but yeah.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: Singing. My mother says I sang before I could speak.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: My personal style is what I call "southern swagger." It's a sort of rebellious, sultry, soulful, hard Americana.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: Missy Elliot. She's proudly her own voice, visual, and sound. She's a true unicorn. I worship unicorns in this industry.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: STOP OVER-PRODUCING VOCALS.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: Lyrics that come from experience to a story with a haunting melody. I enjoy doing it all, but if anything, I adapt easily. That quality makes me confident in what I do and to provide something special.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I created my vocal booth out of a shed bought from Home Depot. Pillows are neatly attached to its ceiling to resemble clouds, turf and sound-proofing board cover the inside and fun neon lighting don the walls. It's my pride and joy, she-shed, and ultimate creative space. A place where I feel safe and 'sound.'
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: I am working on my next record and everything in between.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: I like to set the theme of a song and visualize it. When you see it, you believe it. When you believe it, you devote yourself to the mission and express it with conviction. Feeling is what makes good songs great.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Personally, I'm in usually working on pop rock and soulful, alternative country music.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: I like my Cyndi Lauper records as much as I like my Zeppelin records. On a more contemporary basis, I tend to be partial to music that isn't overly manufactured and artists who are also writers.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I receive session work on a consistent basis across an array of genres. I write and sing hooks for hip hop artists just as often as I sing country demos for other fellow writers.
