Endorse LavishInterview with Lavish
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I have been doing music for about 12 years, and started out as a schooled drummer. I took lessons In drums for several years and played in big band orchestras for some of that time. After that I learnt to play the piano, which is now my main instrument, and guitar, bass, ukulele, percussion and more instruments as well. I have been producing for about 5 years and have during that time amassed over 200 000 streams on my music, produced for mobile games and collaborated with several different singers, artists and producers. I have also studied music production at Umeå University in Sweden before moving to Los Angeles and starting up my own music company.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I can turn your idea, demo or finished track to a commercial level with production, clean mixing and industry standard mastering.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: My typical work process is listening to clients, understand their vision and help them reach their desired final product. This can be by analyzing the mix and reacting to what needs to be taken care of, producing the song from scratch, tweak the master etc.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: What I love about music is the ability to constantly learn and develop my sound, techniques and ability to make and mix music. There is always a new sound to be found, a new melody to play and a new song to make.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: I usually work on "mainstream pop music" as well as EDM. I have worked on everything from house to country to pop to soundtrack and many people appreciate my versatility which allows me to take on any song or style.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: My strongest skills is my technical knowledge and ability to mix very good.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: I am greatly inspired by the great pop music producers out there, such as Max Martin, Shellback, Steve Mac, Axwell, Quincy Jones and so on. When it comes to sound and genres I am very inspired by pop icons such as Michael Jackson, The Weeknd, Taylor Swift, Ariana Grande and modern pop and EDM such as Avicii and Kygo.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: Full song production, mixing and mastering.
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: One of my prouder projects would be my debut EP, on which I produced, mixed, mastered and took care of all creative marketing. Even though I have developed much as a producer since then I can still look back and be amazed at the quality I achieved and the music I made.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: I tend to go with mostly digital solutions because of the much higher quality and efficiency, but analog will always be a fun way to get the creative juices flowing and trying out new things.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: My promise to my clients is to deliver a product that's very well worth the price, professional standard and being available very quickly.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: I tend to ask the goal of the project - what is it for? I also ask for background information such as experience, style, genres, instrumentation and so on to get to know my client. Many questions will be related to the project such as style, genre, reference tracks and different suggestions.
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Look for someone who matches your style in music, meets your requirements and understands your vision.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: A microphone, my computer, a keyboard, headphones and an interface.
