Interview with Daisy Draper

  1. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  2. A: Clients have often asked, "how can I make this catchier?" I love this question because it challenges me to write from a genuine yet strategic place.

  3. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  4. A: I am especially proud of my work with my former musical project, "Oceanlux." Signing to Amuxe Publishing was a goal we had worked towards for several years. I was the vocalist and lyricist in the pop duo.

  5. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  6. A: I am currently working on my solo artist project as Daisy Draper :) You can follow me on socials under @iamdaisydraper and @iamdaisy__ on Tik Tok. I'm also a spiritual teacher and take clients for emotional and spiritual healing.

  7. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  8. A: Yes!

  9. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  10. A: I really love the modern sound of digital. Although there's something special about older analog pieces, I really enjoy the sophisticated elements digital has to offer.

  11. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  12. A: I promise to really listen to what my clients are looking for, deliver my best work and send projects promptly.

  13. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  14. A: What I like most about my job is the creative process and putting the pieces together within a song. Its deeply satisfying once the puzzle comes together.

  15. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  16. A: The biggest misconception is that writing pop music is "easy." To write something incredibly catchy and memorable is anything but easy!

  17. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  18. A: What's the inspiration behind the project? What will this be for? What are your influences? What do you need from me to really bring out the best?

  19. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  20. A: Use your intuition when choosing vocalists! Whoever lights you up within the first 30 seconds is usually an excellent candidate for the project.

  21. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  22. A: I would take my ovation acoustic-electric guitar, my Vox amp, my SE2200 mic with pop filter, my M-Audio interface, and my laptop to record it all in! Hopefully this island has a source of electricity 🥴

  23. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  24. A: I began my musical endeavors with my previous artist project, "Oceanlux," that started in 2016. After gigging around the midwest and two EP releases, we signed with Amuxe Publishing in early 2019. In late 2019, I moved to Los Angeles to start my solo music project as "Daisy Draper." I will be releasing my debut single in July 2021.

  25. Q: How would you describe your style?

  26. A: My solo artist project under "Daisy Draper," is inspired by electro pop with a bit of dance pop choruses. I'm heavily influenced by Loote, The Chainsmokers, Ellie Goulding and Taylor Swift.

  27. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  28. A: I would love to work alongside with Stevie Nicks. Her voice and melodies heavily influenced my approach to writing and assisted in the development of my vocal style. The rawness and strength in her vocals inspire me.

  29. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  30. A: Ensure the raw vocals are as clean as possible without clipping or extra noise in the background. The cleaner the raw vox the better the final production.

  31. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  32. A: I normally work on various genres within the pop realm. Electro pop, alt pop, indie pop, dance pop, soft pop and even singer-songwriter.

  33. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  34. A: My strongest skills are my distinctive and elusive vocals paired with catchy pop melodies. I write very strong choruses and achieve a unique, electronic sound with my voice.

  35. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  36. A: I have been singing since I was four years old, had 4 years of professional vocal training and sang in choir throughout elementary school to college. I have been gigging professionally since 2017, and love adding a level of vulnerability and authenticity to the music I create.

  37. Q: What's your typical work process?

  38. A: I typically record all of my ideas (melodies, lyrics, backing vocals, etc) and return back to them once I have clarity to move forward with a song.

  39. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  40. A: I have a SE2200 that I connect to my M-Audio Fast Track Pro and my Macbook Pro. I usually record vocals with either Logic, Protools or Garageband.

  41. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  42. A: I'm currently inspired by MYRNE, Grimes, Julia Wolf, Loote and Martin Garrix.

  43. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  44. A: I record raw vocals, write melodies and lyrics over instrumentals. I love harmonizing and stacking vocals. I'm usually filled with melody and lyrical ideas once I hear a track, and thoroughly enjoy helping my clients think outside of the box.
