Interview with Julian Munro

  1. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  2. A: It has always been songwriting/producing. I've been making music for 15 years. Over the past decade I've prided myself on being able to engage with the artist I work with and help them push themselves to the next level. From the age of 14 I knew I was going to have a footing in the music industry.

  3. Q: How would you describe your style?

  4. A: Always changing, I believe we need to work and change for the better daily.

  6. A: Keep it Simple

  7. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  8. A: Life! I play many different instruments. Whether it's adding guitar or other interesting elements to the record, I bring the best out of a song because I look at it through a few different perspectives. How will the listener engage with record? How does the music make me feel? What does this record need?

  9. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  10. A: I have a very basic home set up. I use a pair Yahama HS 8's, the Warm Audio Neve 1073 EQ Preamp, the Warm Audio WA87 and a Universal Audio Apollo Twin.

  11. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  12. A: Producing, Mixing/Engineering, Live Musician Work (Recording guitar, piano and/or bass) & Artist Consulting.

  14. A: Rap/Hip-Hop, Pop, R&B

  15. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  16. A: My communication & work ethic. To bring a song to life I strongly believe it is imperative to make sure to understand what the client is exactly looking for. I work diligently to make sure your track is everything you could have imagined.

  17. Q: What's your typical work process?

  18. A: Step 1 : Speaking to the client. I want to know where your head is and where you want to go musically with your product. Step 2 : Listening to your song(s) Step 3 : Giving my expertise to what I think the song(s) need & agreeing to what needs to get done Step 4 : Getting it done. Step 5 : Sending over the first reference/edit Step 6 : If you're happy with the result, I will send stems and we are done. If not I will do a revision Step 7 : We are done
