Interview with Hasan Atki

  1. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  2. A: I like that each different project is sonically different and there's always something to learn every time.

  3. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  4. A: Trust your ears and communicate.

  5. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  6. A: Don't say "no, i don't want to sound like that artist". Say instead "i want to sound like that artist". By opening yourself this little path you're also opening a million different directions it could go from there. When you dive into that world of creation there's endless choices to be made. Step out of your comfort zone!

  7. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  8. A: Mostly electronic dance music, but also pop, acoustic etc. It changes rapidly in my case.

  9. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  10. A: Guilt, so when people hear that song and notice something cool or unique i can proudly say "Yep, i'm guilty of that!".

  11. Q: What's your typical work process?

  12. A: It really depends on the project or role i'm in. If i'm doing composition/beatmaking/writing it's very important to complete the idea first, as soon as possible (can't stress that enough), without worrying about other elements or technical stuff. If it's mixing, organizing and getting to know what i'm working with is very important as that affects my input to the song.

  13. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  14. A: Inspiration can hit in many different ways, that's a given. Usually, something that works for me can be just as small as turning a knob in a unique way to a full blown technique or rhythm that hits with inspiration. Dave Pensado and his show Pensado's Place has done that for me recently. A big fan of Tchad Blake and his sound and also the lads over at Present Day Production. Can be many more which i haven't even noticed but there sure is a place in my creativity which they should be credited for.
