Interview with TKDPLL
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: Of course, I am proud of my work for EL ESES. Aside from getting her songs to different Spotify playlists and gaining more than 400,000 streams, I was able to bring out everything I learned to her tracks. I was also one of the composers and producers.
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: Tom Dupree III
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: To my dear clients, I promise to help you and your track get the opportunity to land into one or more Official Spotify playlists by making sure that your finished track perfectly fits into your desired playlist.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: "How will you manage to do that?" My answer differs from client to client. I have to study what my client wants and that's where I level the tonality of their track.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I can bring out the tiniest character detail of each and every instrument and make it very well-fitted for their specific desired genre.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: Just finished a track for Andreas here at SoundBetter :)
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: Where do you plan to take your track?
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Both. It depends on what kind of music and effects you'd like to produce.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: Music has been and forever will be my life. Making a living from making music has been my dream ever since
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: That everything can be done with just a few clicks. Mixing and Mastering is a very crucial process.
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Make sure that when you submit a recording, that's your best take. If you're struggling to decide, give options. For example, give multiple vocal tracks so I can personally pick which I think are the best parts.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: I would definitely bring my laptop, bass guitar, audio interface, dynamic microphone, and a wall of solar panels with batteries.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I've been doing this for 10 years. I started mixing using an app on a PSP called Rockstar. As far as I remember, that is where I started. Over time, I began editing on PC and took it more seriously.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: My style is bringing old classic instruments into a piece of modern-sounding music.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: If given the opportunity, I would really love to work with Devvon Terrell. I have a feeling that I'm gonna learn a lot from him.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Don't forget to give your ears some time to rest. That's the most important instrument that a mixing engineer has.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: As of now, I am working on RnB and Synthwave
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: I can make a bad recording sound better ;)
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: Before everything else, coffee. That is number 1. The next step is active listening and deconstructing/dissecting. I usually start by grouping the stems. After grouping, I'll start with routing the instruments. Next is, and which I think is the most important is balancing the mix. That's basically how my work process goes.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: My studio setup is extremely minimal but effective. No fancy gear. Everything I make is based on my skill.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: As of now, a musician named Pascäal inspires me the most. Listen to him. He's amazing!
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: The most common types of work that I do for my clients are Music Production, Recording, and Mixing & Mastering. But what I love the most is the process of Mixing & Mastering.
