Interview with Juan Martin Rivas

  1. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  2. A: I got started in music production a couple of years ago. I decided that I wanted to start working with other musicians so I started gaining experience by mixing for free for artists from all around the world

  3. Q: How would you describe your style?

  4. A: My stule is pretty varied and really depends on the style. But my mixes are always filled with soul and professionalism

  5. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  6. A: The first person that comes to my mind is Ado, a important japanese singer. She is one of the best vocalist's I've ever heard, the musicians she works with and amazing and I've heard her story so I can connect with her in a personal level

  7. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  8. A: Don't be afraid to experiment. Although it's risky you can come up with new ideas or techniques that will make your sound stand out

  9. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  10. A: Rock, Pop, Indie Pop, R&B, Country, Jazz, Classical

  11. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  12. A: Definitely work ethic. I always work hard to get the best sound possible in the shortest amount of time possible. I believe a work should always be properly done

  13. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  14. A: I brig a lot of care and professionalism. I always try to turn a song into the best version of itself

  15. Q: What's your typical work process?

  16. A: It starts with contacting my client and discussing what their project is about, the amount of time it will take and the pricing. After that I start mixing the songs. Each time I finish a mix I send it to the client for them to revise before I can master them. I then proceed to master it and repeat this process until everything is properly done.

  17. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  18. A: I work on my laptop on Pro Tools HD (sometimes FL Studio) using my headphones

  19. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  20. A: I generally do mixing and mastering for my clients. I ask them to send me their song tracks and I deliver them a fully mixed and mastered song

  21. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  22. A: In terms of music production, I'm heavily inspired by producers like Warren Huart, George Martin, Max Martin and Finneas O'Connell among others
