Interview with Ronan Lyons
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Always make sure you are in time with the click track.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Rock, Blues, Pop, Indie
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Rhythm guitar is my strongest skill. By playing a good rhythm guitar section it keeps the tracking sounding full and prominent.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: Well thought out and planned tracks, so that they are recognizable within the song. When it comes to tone for the guitar track I make sure that I work on this a lot before starting the recording session so that when playing I know that everything is where it's meant to be.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: When working on music I like to listen to the track that I have been sent to work on a few times, so that I know the structure well and write down notes to help me identify where I can lock in my parts. Allowing them to sit well within the track. Listening to reference tracks is also part of my process as this helps with creativity and tone searching. Once I have done this I like to record scratch tracks of my guitar tracks and identify what went well and what didn't then send a copy of these to the artist for feedback before recording the final tracks.
