Interview with Wade Alin
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: The goal is always for listeners to feel what the artist felt at their highest point of inspiration. I often start by refining individual tracks on a technical level - tightening a beat, replacing a sound or two. Adding or enhancing an existing sound. I’m first and foremost a programmer and have a deep understanding of how sounds work in unison. I am also very well versed in orchestration and will often add symphonic elements to the tracks I produce.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Both. They are both immensely poweful tools for making music sound great! In conjunction, even more so.
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Focus on finding your voice, your sound. That one thing that sets you apart. Don't sweat the details, I will : )
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: A long time. I have been a Universal Music recording artist, a remixer, a beatmaker, a composer for film and television, a mastering engineer. I've worked on hundreds of releases and worn every hat as both an artist and as a producer.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: A cross between FKA Twigs, NIN, and Massive Attack.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Learn to use transient designers, don't overdo it!
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Many different styles, but there is almost always an electronic component to the music I work on.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: On the software side, my mix DAW is Protools. I use a combination of Logic, Live, and Cubase for writing and programming. I use Wavelab for mastering. Hardware: I use Burl and Lavry AD/DA, a Dangerous monitor controller, Focal and Genelec monitors.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Flood, Robert Del Naja, Buddy Ross, Neptunes
